I repeat, Memphis has been talking to the Big 12 for a long time. Not a big secret.Lots of schools mentioned to us. Memphis, Cincy, BYU, USF, UCF, Boise, Houston. Heck, even SMU, a long time ago. Never Colorado State, and never UConn, afaik.

Does that mean anything? Who knows? But it certainly gives me the impression that if they expand, it will be someone other than CSU or UConn, and much more likely some of the schools mentioned.

For the general public, it was a big secret until the FOIA request. Most mainstream media scoffed at any serious interest in Memphis up until then. Many still do with some reporting the sponsorship deal as a last minute desperate pitch rather than part of an ongoing process. However, if you go back and put the pieces together, it becomes obvious that communications have been happening for quite some time. What that means in the end, I have no clue as I'm sure conversations with other schools are also taking place.

Exactly. It was a secret until the FOIA request, but now it's pretty obvious we have been talking. And to my knowledge, Memphis and UC have been talking to the Big 12, on and off, mostly on, since early 2014, at least.

I know back then, they mentioned to us that they were also considering SMU and Houston, and since this past January, they mentioned a lot of other teams, too, but none that haven't already been mentioned in the media.

OU gets mad in the end and leaves for the SEC and all hell breaks loose. PRINT IT.

The B12 screwed the pooch by not taking Louisville and one other school (Cincy, BYU, or whoever else) at the time they took WVU. Of course it was a blessing for the AAC because had they taken Louisville and UC then the ACC probably takes UCONN and there might not even be an AAC at all.

My guess is they have already planned an exit. Texas isn't going to give up the LHN so no network TV package is even possible. At that point Texas has to bolt with no more elite teams. Does anyone else get a life boat?

Oklahoma and Texas are the only two programs in that league who are guaranteed to land on their feet. Everyone else has to keep their fingers crossed and hope for the best. Which (of course) is the reason why Texas can be so overbearing and not suffer any consequence for it.

As for the possibility of actual Big 12 expansion, I think a clearer picture will emerge during or within a week or so after the meeting next week.

The media has not covered this story for 18 months. They have zero sources inside the BIg 12 offices so they make stuff up. Just opinions. As for your assertion on Memphis, the current Fedex proposal is massive compared to any other company that is supporting any school so far. I would say that means more to a league that is doing this FOR money more than anything else.

Of all the posters you have chosen to call a troll, you couldn't have made a more wrong accusation.

There's no doubt West Virginia has a big history with Connecticut so I wouldn't be surprised if Connecticut got in due to the fact that they bring the North eastern part of the United States

WVU is a pretty Northeastern school in reality. It wouldn't surprise me if they really do see value in getting another Northeastern state flagship into the conference.

Yep. You've even had the OU president and BOR chair walk this expansion stuff back the last couple of weeks. When expansion actually happens they do that stuff really quick and really quiet, they don't talk about it out in the open for months in advance. I'll be shocked if anything happens.
