Nope. I don't have the time to study minor Texas schools. I am glad you built an expansion.
So, Army is a "major" school now? Or are you simply biased against other "minor schools" located specifically in Texas?
The SEC considers us P5! :)
Seriously, by any metric of television and notoriety, Army is a major team. We have a contract for our games, our attendance is still 30,000 despite some struggles, we have National Championships, Heisman winners, legends, Hall of Famers galore, our rivalry game is played on CBS (The only time I have seen a Sun Belt team on CBS is on the bottomline!) and we have a cherished role in college football history.
That is major. It is like realignment, Rutgers and Maryland weren't the best on the field teams but they had other skills that made them major.
I like the Sun Belt and root for you fellows against the big boys but there is way too much Army bashing on this board. I get it, we are currently down but we are major in terms of universities and aren't directional schools playing second fiddle and at the mercy of state governments which wish to kill your athletics. I understand that there is some envy coming from the newer programs which don't have any history. I deal with the same crap on the AAC board from USF and UCF fans. I tried to start a weekly history lesson for some of the older teams (SMU, Tulane etc) but little minds and jealous hearts trolled it.
I thank UL for giving us Chris Cagle!
Kudos man. Army is a major school by any metric I can think of except recent on-field success. With Monken there I believe that will change. Whether he can equal the success Navy is having is up in the air. Army's mission is somewhat different than Navy's and Air Forces, so it might be more difficult getting recruits. But I think he'll find what he needs to build a winning program.
Army is far more world-renowned than my alma mater, Georgia Southern; it's more prestigious than my other school, South Carolina (which I attended), and I'd lay odds more people respect a degree from West Point than they do one from Coastal (where I also attended, by the way, back when it was still a college and before the influx of yankees crowded up the whole coast).
It's probably one of the best academic institutions in the world. It's the nation's military academy. It has a great history and its graduates have gone to command armies and serve as commander in chief. How the hell anyone can consider it not to be a major school is beyond me.
PS. Speaking of Coastal, did I dream it or was there a time when the school colors weren't teal? My own recollection of the semester I spent there is sort of hazy. I could've sworn the colors had red in them back then (1980s).
You are correct. Upon our second Independence Day in 1993, we changed our colors to teal and bronze.
I say second Independence Day, because Coastal actually started off as a branch of College of Charleston in 1954 and went independent for a short period of time between 1959 and 1962, but then became part of the university of he who shall not be named from 1962 to 1993. The year 1993 is when we broke off and became independent again and changed our colors.

At best, their status is "n/a". They're a totally different beast and worthy of every bit, and more, of the high profile attention they occasionally receive. But radio isn't at the forefront of media dispersement anymore, just like they're not a major anymore.
Again, lets get this back to CCU.
I'll do an army thread split if need be.

RE: CCU Stadium Expansion
Just an update on our petition: we're currently sitting just under 2,475 signatures. In the past two days we've received endorsements from the CCU Alumni Association, the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation, and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce - all of which have been pushing the petition out to their members.
Last week the petition was covered by WMBF News, WPDE News, The Sun News, and even in a blurb by the Associated Press. So the word is still getting out there. I hope y'all will continue to encourage your friends to sign and show that there are fans from across the country who will visit the Conway/MB area and spend tons of money in the process!

RE: CCU Stadium Expansion
You need to have those people make donations instead of signing a petition. I can't imagine Coastal being denied if you could raise 5 or 6 million in private funds, not funds from other areas of the school, but outside private money. I've been surprised that your coach hasn't called in a few favors from the business side. Sell the naming rights to the stadium. That could raise a couple million.

RE: CCU Stadium Expansion
It's as simple as this: the majority of the SC taxpayers HATE that Coastal exists for a couple of reasons. #1 South Carolinians don't like the type of people Coastal attracts: party-school image and out-of-state students who do not conform to SC ways. As a former teacher who taught in SC, there's a stigma when most students even said Coastal Carolina. It was always connected with "last choice school", thuggish, STDs and a party school. #2 you have the 2 big schools' (U of SC and Clemson) alumni base, which, unlike CCU's, stay in the state and has more power in the state government. I'm surprised that the state hasn't cut funding all together and pushed Coastal to become a private school.

yep, welcome to the world of the G5 schools, where any notable success will be dealt with swiftly and harshly by the P5 schools in your state, you think this is bad, just wait if your football program starts making a name for itself on a national level, especially if you start having success against SC and Clemson; (see Georgia Southern).

We had committed $2 million upfront plus $12.5 million over the bond from private gifts.
Naming rights to stadium are already sol - Brooks Stadium.
What we need to do is sell a vote for whenever the next Sun Belt membership vote is - know any schools who have the extra cash to pony up?

fun fact about Coastal Carolina. My Grandfather is (at least at one point in time) the oldest person to graduate from CCU.
