I think you mean article. That doesn't read like a press release and BeIN hasn't officially announced it yet to my knowledge.

You are 100% correct. Yesterday when I looked at the link I didn’t realize it was a magazine article, I assumed it was something official from the network announcing the agreement.

The point I’m making is it goes along with what I’ve been saying all along, if the AAC wants to market itself as truly a “best of the rest” or top G5 conference, and especially to reinforce Arescos positioning of the P6 we should be moving further away from CUSA not moving closer, regardless of the relationships AAC schools have had in the past with CUSA programs or which schools deserves better. G5 vs P5 status is measured in TV revenue.

In the heart of Nashville (and throughout the Mid South); a far greater number of folks will watch Televised FB involving the four teams you just bashed than will ever give a crap about Tulane. Unless Memphis, or Houston, or Cincy is steamrolling the Green Wave, for the umpteenth time; then we might flip the channel for about 10 seconds to check on your Superior Opponents!!!

Ehhhh----I think what their saying is even CUSA football will move the needle when the needle is currently only averaging 19,000 viewers (19K is the current average number of viewers watching BeIn Sports during the day).

The average CUSA game was getting viewership numbers around 70K-100K. That's 4 or 5 times what BeIn's current programming is averaging. A good game CUSA might get 10-20 times BeIn's current average viewership of 19K. Twenty times 19K is 380k. CUSA had a few games hit that range or above. Given that BeIn is only paying a million or two---its a no brainer. The reality is, as CUSA fans add the channel to watch their favorite team, the increase in their subscriber base alone will likely make the deal a good one for the network.

Some very interesting stats there. Even with CUSA games their viewership would be at least 10 times than it is now, its a win - win for both.

While BEIN isn't going to make in-roads with the Big 10 and other P5 conferences since they have the BTN, this is the first opportunity for them to start to make a push for some domestic programming and increase their viewership to get more popular on cable packages.
They will be a player down the road for other G5 conferences. Maybe not for first tier games but for 2nd tier they could be a better option than Root Sports for the MW.
If ASN makes a serious push out west, they will also be a player for conferences out west (Big Sky, MW, WAC, Summit..)

My experience with ASN is extremely limited, however the one game Temple had on ASN last season was a basketball game vs Tulane at Tulane. It’s weird to me because the game was on ESPN3 but it was produced by ASN. I have to admit the ASN production value and announcers were much better than the normal ESPN3 product and even though it’s a limited sample size I was impressed with ASN.

RE: OT-New TV Partner For CUSA
where is this coming from:

ESPN Networks: 5
CBSSN: 5
ASN: 25-30
BeIN: Unknown currently

ive seen it posted a few times but can't find links..is it confirmed??

i have a hard time believing this, and c-usa execs were just bragging about improved exposure

cbssn & fox really abandoned c-usa and nbc didn't even try to get cheap programming

for all the nonstop talk c-usa fans made last year about "we're all the same" "all g5 are viewed equally" "lateral move" "we're better"
nbcsports & espn were willing to offer over 90 games televised, and cbsnn wanted to take 10 of our tier 3 games

if its true, the mac will surpass c-usa comfortably in 2/3 years..perception is everything in college football and you can't build perception without exposure..you wont build any award campaign on ASN and i doubt half the AP voters have bein

IMO exposure wise the sunbelt has a better tv deal.. 7 ESPN tv games ..80% of everything else on ESPN3, and espn has power to add additional if one of their teams becomes a media darling..no one is going out of their way for espn3 games, but if there was a top 25 sunbelt team playing in a game with implications, it is accessible to everyone (all that are invested, voters, fans of people hoping you fail, your supporters, media personality etc..) its like the mac's espn3 games we will all go watch it on espn3 if we are invested, and highlights will be on espn (core fans will find it)..but like with Marshall 2 years ago, no none "school biased" highlights are made and you couldnt watch the game, even though i wanted to (you might get 5k viewers but it will cut out a ton of your core and just being random viewers of that channel with no investment to you )

Numbers came from Matt Sarz who is rarely wrong when it comes to things like that.

The 5-CBS-Sports, 5-ESPN, and ASN- 15 to 20 part is coming from a Chuck Landon column in Huntington Herald Dispatch. The 25 to 30 number is the total games expected to be televised by those 3 outlets. That report was picked up and repeated by a couple of other outlets (Virginia Pilot and Matt Sarz).

Here's Chuck Landon's article.

Also, NBCSN didn't really need the programming. Fall has NASCAR, EPL, etc. winter has the basketball only conferences, some MWC, NHL, etc.

It's not confirmed. There should be a press release in the next week or so, so we'll get all the actual details there. I'm dubious as well that C-USA would only get 5 games on ESPN and CBSSN each. Do remember that there was a rumor going around for a while that C-USA was only getting $1MM as a conference, while the more agreed upon number is now $5-7MM. I could see a similar thing happening with the 5 game number.
