RE: Folks are laughing about those who think this is done
So everyone fears the unknown. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering...blah blah. I haven't posted but maybe a handful of times in years. It's hard to read the negativity on this board. People used to be quite close here. MissJ landed me in a spot to meet Calipari. Sent me pictures in the mail. Now everyone fights like a redneck thanksgiving

RE: Folks are laughing about those who think this is done
From everything that I have read, here's what I believe:

1. The Big12 will expand.
2. There is a very good chance it will be us and Cincy.

If not, well, let's face it, we will pretty much be done in athletics. Calkins is a smarmy know-it-all, but I agree with him that this is THE moment for Tiger athletics. The Big East we all pretty much knew that it was pretty darn unstable even when we got in. This is entirely a different scenario.

The likelihood that UT/Oklahoma State/OSU and Texas Tech would bolt for the Pac-12 is extremely small. On the other hand, the likelihood that the Catholic schools would bolt from the Big East was always fairly large and many people knew that the conference was too bloated and cumbersome with a mish-mash of all-sports and bb only, many private Catholic schools in the Northeast and some Southern land grant schools.

I chose to be half-way optimistic when the Big East came calling, but I knew that there was always a chance elsewhere and I knew the Big East was not very sturdily constructed.

In this case, there really is no other option than to be optimistic. Not only rationally, but the alternative is dreadful.

Let's put it this way: Fred Smith recognizes the importance of this moment. He has said they will sponsor a Big 12 championship game and probably has a VERY good idea about the quid pro quo aspect in terms of the amounts and the payoffs. Fred also knows the downside of the failure to get in and when taking the differential, it is enormous.

Sponsoring the Big East BB tourney? That doesn't cost a huge amount, but it probably did not have a huge payoff either.

Sponsoring a Big 12 championship game? Probably costs much more, but the payoff is pretty darn huge as well.

And I am pretty sure Fred knows this, as does Rudd.

Good deal...when can we expect the announcements to be made? Summer, fall, winter, 2017?

All the Big12 talk is just a smokescreen by Ole Miss to divert the attention away from them.

There is no doubt that they will expand. I think we have a better than 50/50 chance of getting an invite. But contrary to certain delusionalist in here. I believe that no decision has been made by the Big 12 as to which schools will be invited. Nothing is a given and the campaigning and maneuvering is still going on by the schools in the running.

They are laughing for good reason. I'm not going to do a long post but FedEx just agreed to sponsor Big 12 games and put in best efforts to assure we get in.

The $500 M includes apartments being built around the campus as well as projects announced long ago and some already close to completion.

Having Fred Smith publicly come out is a big step but the guy in Houston who got an NFL team there is a HEAVY hitter too.

So I'm not laughing because I'm a Tiger fan but I would be if I was a follower of B12 expansion.

I'm not laughing at anyone and I really hope we get into the B12.

But I do remember a few years before we got into the Big East there were some posters on this board (very good posters) who had sources that said we were getting an invite at the conference media days. People were convinced as I remember. It didn't happen.

I hope that is not the case here.

Now, things have changed. We have new leadership in our administration & athletic department. We have improved football performance. We have strong local support from our fan base and community. We have the (documented) support of FedEx.

Still, I'm not convinced it will happen until it happens.

You can laugh all you want but there are lots of other places where the conversation today, is twenty steps in front of this and the conversations are at a mature level and focused on ten years from now. Not debating what is going to happen.

I see why no one with any connections ever post on here any longer. It's a cesspool of miserable and uninformed.

So the "good" boards have proof this is a done deal?

What are the good boards?
