Try your best to name a starting lineup.. come on I dare you.05-stirthepot05-stirthepot

What else we going to do for the next few months?

Just to get the debate started.

Walters

I was thinking about making a similar post. My lineup is close to yours with the only difference being at the 3 position. I feel like there is a reason Forbes went so guard heavy in recruiting this spring, so I think he will stick to a similar 3 guard lineup as he was doing towards the end of last season. Although I can totally see Burrell, Merriweather or Cromer starting in the 3 position as well.

Walters
Payne
Desonta
Glass
Perea

That's as close as I can get! But hell, there won't be a SF at the 5, for the 2nd year in a row!

Not that it matters to Forbes what we'll say here....but you don't leave Cromer out of the (initial!) starting five. Not saying Payne or whoever is going to be less valuable - but you've got to reward Cromer on his past body of work. I'm almost tempted to say the same for Merriweather, and have him be a starter at least initially for the 'cachet', but that's a bit weaker of an argument. But just a bit.

I'm not certain we don't start 3 guards - depending on the matchup - at certain points. I'm not at all saying that will be the case; just that I can easily imagine it.

[Note: When I posted the above, Bucster's post concerning the possibility of using 3 guards had not yet shown up, despite it's time stamp.]

There is no way Cromer is not in the starting 5. Based on last year, he was arguably our best player and will be a pre-season all conference player. I love our new guys coming in but Cromer proved himself to be fantastic and should be our #1 option next year.

Also, I know a lot of people are going to put Desonta as a starter but I hope that won't be the case. Don't get me wrong, I like his game but it just feels like he is more suited as a 6th man. When he comes in it is a change of pace and brings some instant offense. Maybe its because they are both left handed but he reminds me of how Manu used to come in for the Spurs and give them that spark.

I would agree with this except for Banks. I hope that we are good enough that Banks hardly ever gets off the bench this year- he was a very big liability last season. I would argue that Merriweather was our second best player last year, there is no way that he won't be in the starting lineup. I think Cromer and Merriweather both start at least half of the games.

I wonder if Banks would consider red shirting? Way back in the day Darell Jones did that when Dennis broke his foot and came back for a 5th year, Jones took a red shirt his senior season (no injury).
We are going to be crowded in the front court next year but most will be gone, maybe Banks takes a year off?

Something like this. I would imagine Banks, Perea, Jurkin and Glass would be rotating a lot.

He probably won't but I don't know why more players don't do it. Didn't like Ford or Pelfrey do it at Kentucky one year?

RE: Now the Fun begins...Way Early Starting 5
We have SF's with skills. I don't think they'll sit, although it's certainly up in the air as to who starts at 3, be that a guard or wing or otherwise SF. I imagine there will be multiple lineups all the way through the year. I also hope Peter Jurkin really comes back ready for a big final season (assuming this is it). Every year I hope to see that athletic, traditional lineup emerge.

At some point in the season, I can't wait to see this 5 crush another team:

Walters
Bradford
Burrell
Mosqueira-Perea
Jurkin

Burrell will get up, but I think Desonta Bradford is the preseason 2016-17 high flyer for the Bucs. The other guards don't have his ups or haven't shown it yet on film. Bradford also played amazing defense to close last season. Defense and ball handling will be what differentiates the starters and big playing time from simple scorers. So many scorers this season!

Here's my guess at the rotation:

1. Walters, Bradford, Williams
2. Payne/Long, Cromer/Bradford
3. Burrell, Merriweather, Long, Johnson
4. Glass, Banks, Mosqueira-Perea
5. Mosqueira-Perea, Jurkin

That would put 13 people in rotation. Complete guess, but I think Williams, Johnson, and Cromer are most likely on page not to get playing time if push comes to shove. I think Banks will make the cut because of length and hustle, although he will definitely be outperformed by Mosqueira-Perea and likely Glass. Jurkin should be improved and will receive playing time if for no reason other than being a 7 footer. I expect a dynamic range of lineups and substitutions in response to the competition.

RE: Now the Fun begins...Way Early Starting 5
Looking back through the posts, there's a lot of love for Cromer. I love him, too. But I think he's about to get replaced by Juco's that play better defense. Just a hunch. He will make the rotation as a senior one way or another, starting or not. Until the new recruits bump him, there's no reason to assume Cromer won't start at 2 at the beginning of the season. Merriweather deserves the same love. Glass sat a year, so I expect him to command a starting position starting out. No one will touch HMP.

So, if I have to pick a day 1 starting lineup, for now I say:

Walters
Cromer
Merriweather
Glass
Mosqueira-Perea

We are straight up LOADED.

Did something happen where you forgot what happened during all the games last year? Cromer was a stud. If not for Gelawn he was far and away our best player last year. Just check the stats.

T.J. Cromer averaged 32 minutes per game, scored 14.9 points on .365 from 3 (102 makes)with 3.4 rebounds and led the team with 3.1 assists to only 2.02 turnovers to make all conference. He did have some problems defensively. But, yeah, with a season like that he certainly should be penciled in as starter. Especially since JUCO’s usually have a stronger second season. Jalen Riley went from 13.4 points per game on .323 from 3 to 20.2 points on .375 from 3 as a senior.

One of the interesting things about Cromer’s season was that he really blew away the SoCon the first time through the league with 17.0 points per game in 33.6 minutes on .426 from 3 (20 of 47)as the Bucs went 6-3. The second time through the league, people got out on him more and he slipped a bit to 12.7 points per game on .341 from 3 (14 of 41) as the team went 8-1.

Come tournament time (SoCon and Vegas), he averaged 13.7 points on .448 from the field and .375 from 3 in 33.3 minutes.

The others have yet to prove that they can do this against D1 opponents.
