I can't speak to Charlotte Douglass, but there were 'family' restrooms at RDU at nearly every location for men and women's rooms with no lines what so ever. It is pure, unfounded, speculation on your end that there will be "2 hour lines".

Oh dear.. now a unisex restroom offensive?!?

Actually there's no requirement that any public facility provide unisex restrooms at all. And since there's no requirement, Trans persons can be denied restroom access or provided with extremely inferior accommodations. And since its the NC GOP running things, it WILL be hideously inferior.

And that's why it violates Title IX. And it does. The Courts have already ruled on this.

Title IX does not define sex, implying that biological sex (male or female) need not be defined. Therefore, I see a fatal flaw in applying Title IX universally to the transgender bathroom problem since it is not biological sex but sexual identity that is the issue.

Title IX does not admit members of one sex to participate in single-sex activities of the other sex - Only that equal opportunities be afforded them.

I would be interested in reading the court rulings if you could provide links to them.

It's not as clear cut as you imply it to be.
Quote:In its ruling, the appeals court didn't explicitly say the school board violated Title IX.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, Title IX doesn't mention sexual identity at all. This courts ruling will eventually find its way to the SC. To me, this is a separate issue and has nothing to do with Title IX. We will have to wait and see.

I don't think were going to be doing much waiting. Besides, the NC legislature passed this mess in one day with virtually no debate. So its not like waiting is going to need to happen. Just cut off the funding. Besides, Berger would probably pass a law prohibiting Trans people from entering the state, he's such a hateful bigot. There's no point of waiting on the NC legislature. They won't act. Just yank the funding.

Saw McCrory's press conference (well it was billed as a press conference, but he didn't allow any questions). He now wants time. But he gave the LGBT people no time when the legislature acted. He claimed that this wasn't his doing. It was Bergers'. But it was still his decision to put NC in this position. He didn't mention the fact that it made it legal to fire people for being Gay at all. And didn't call on the legislature to remedy that fact. He didn't mandate a non-humiliating option for Trans persons be enacted before any bathroom rules go into effect (probably because the cost of such a plan would be around 50 million bucks and take years). There's been no advocacy of opening up the law to account for post-op Trans Males who cannot get their birth certificates changed. He then appeared to call for the end of all employment protections (because his call to have the GOP House of Reps come up with a global non-discrimination policy would mean the end of any employment protections for anyone not white, a gun owner, a motorcycle rider, Christian, and straight).

Loretta Lynch has a Press Conference at 330 EDT today to announce enforcement of order demanding compliance with Title IX order.

McCrory wants to be George Wallace and stand in the door. Lynch is going to give him that wish.

But he should remember that his anti-Gay/trans actions will not just mar his legacy, but will be his entire legacy. Its all people are going to remember him for. He's the Charles Brantely Aycock of this century, but without the redeeming education focus of Aycock.

On what basis? If funding is tied to Title IX and it hasn't been clearly established that Title IX was violated, then there is no precedent to 'yank the funding' as you put it.

For the billionth time, this law didn't suddenly make it legal to fire gay people overnight. Sexual orientation was not a protected class before HB2, however, McCrory's executive action on HB2 expands the state's employment policy to cover sexual orientation and gender identity for state employees. One would think this would please you.

Nope, it didn't leave enough time for the required notice to public meetings - specifically the NC Board of Governors which is meeting tomorrow, the earliest possible time allowed by law.

Enacting some temporary and toothless 'protections' for 12 people at the expense of 100,000 people in Charlotte isn't a win.

I wonder how much funds Roy Cooper promised the Charlotte City Council to tee up this election year issue for him? Wonder if it will backfire on Ole Roy?

Damn, that's all this state needs, another "Ole Roy".

Enacting some temporary and toothless 'protections' for 12 people at the expense of 100,000 people in Charlotte isn't a win.

Anyone else see the irony in this statement?

You arent the only one...

no kidding.

I wonder how much funds Roy Cooper promised the Charlotte City Council to tee up this election year issue for him? Wonder if it will backfire on Ole Roy.

Damn, that's all this state needs, another "Ole Roy".
It won't backfire on him. McCrory is toast. Cooper was already outfundraising him and this is only going to pour way more money into his campaign. The new polls that came out last week (yes I know, we're a long way away from November) had him with a 10 point lead. It had been neck and neck until those.

It's not as clear cut as you imply it to be.

Really, only 12 lgbt work for the state of NC? (those covered by McCrory's executive order). That's a specific number, mind giving me their names and positions?

Also, your 100,000 number is a gross exaggeration and you are purposefully conflating lesbians, bisexuals, and gays with transgenders. The most recent number of lgbt in Charlotte I could find was 90,000. Only the very, very tiny number of transgenders are of concern since they are the ones that want to use the bathroom for the opposite sex. Lesbians, gays, and bisexuals haven't been complaining about bathroom assignments.
