UTEP off season basketball news
Surprise, Surprise, but UTEP is have at least one player transfer. Christian Romine, who only played in 14 games this season has asked for and been granted his release. In addition there are rumors that Omega Harris is again having academic problems. He missed the first semester this past season because of academic issues. The rumor is that Floyd is going to kick him off the team (IMO this is what should be done). There is also a rumor that Lee Moore is looking at going to Europe to play. At least one of those rumors seems to be true because UTEP is hosting Katin Reinhart who is a senior transfer from USC. ESPN ranks Reinhart as the #5 available transfer this year. Reinhart is also considering Marquette, Alabama, VCU, Uconn, Xavier, Providence, and Texas. UTEP is also looking at UCF transfer Matt Williams. Williams was UCF's best three point shooter this past season making 55. Williams is also considering Wake Forest, George Washington, Rider, and Miami. As a long time UTEP fan I am getting tired of the revolving door that our basketball program has become.

It has been a revolving door for quite sometime already. Especially with coaches.

RE: UTEP off season basketball news
I don't know if it's typical for other coaches to do this but it seems Floyd recruits more players than he has scholarships for.
I don't know what would happen if he was able to land more recruits than scholarships. I'd imagine that he would ask one of his players to give up his.
Perhaps this is why some players leave before they get left out in the cold.

Floyd is El Paso's favorite son. His seat is ice cold.

Lee Moore is officially going pro and sacrificing his last year of eligibility. Good luck to him.

That's unfortunate for UTEP if true.

Reinhardt committed to Marquette apparently. It's pretty sad when it's not even May and your basketball season is already over.
As for how hot Floyd's seat is....favorite son or not, there better be little dudes in red pajamas sticking pitchforks in his butt. Time to bring in Tyndall.

Talented players will seek opportunities.
Floyd is old school, and I like that. That said, times change... But this program will need to find an identity soon.

That's unfortunate for UTEP if true.
Not according to Bob Stull the A.D. He has said before that Floyd's success is not determined by NCAA bids. He eluded to the fact that 20 win seasons were good enough.
UTEP is unique in that their season ticket holder is likely to be someone who was around to see Haskins coach. Haskins was an old school disciplinarian and Floyd is cut from the same cloth.
It's likely that Bub Stull understands that these people hold the purse strings and he probably won't get rid of Floyd because of that.
Personally, I think there is a lot more behind the scenes stuff going on than the public knows about. I had the honor of having a couple of conversations with Willie Cager about Haskins and UTEP basketball and he gave me insight about how things run over there. The movie "Glory Road" kind of touched on this a bit and that mentality still exists in some circles.
You'll sometimes here people on local talk radio say thing like "Floyd is doing it the right way" when in fact, he's having teams that under achieve.
This is in direct reference to how Tony Barbee coached UTEP.
Let's just say that the season ticket holders that pay the most money to the University want their players to be "disciplined" like the way Floyd does it rather than the way Barbee did it.

Buddha Jones is transferring. Didn't play much but had potential if coached up. Can't really blame anyone for jumping off the Titanic at this point.

Josh McSwiggan is also transferring. Floyd needs to go.

The last 3 Marshall coaches do this as well. They always have more on scholarship on signing day than they have scholarships available. This year is no exception. It was announced last week however, that one of the current players will transfer. The coaches will always make room for who they want. They simply tell a kid that there will be no PT for him next year.. In most cases, the coach then helps him find another home Sometimes at a DII school. In the end, the kid doesn't really care. They just want to play ball.

Man, I was looking forward to seeing him play. Looked like a stud in every video of him I'd seen.

I said this on our board, but the only person in the program that actually deserves to go will be on the sidelines next year.
I feel bad for Jones and Romine. Seems like they just wasted a year in El Paso. Especially Romine. He was supposed to redshirt this year but it got yanked for essentially nothing.
The question is who's next? If I'm Dominic Artis, I really don't see a reason to stick around. Or Harris decides It's not worth the headache?

We are obviously dumping all of our CUSA level talent because we are MWC bound.

We're cutting scholarship money and putting it towards entrance/exit fees.

We could dump the head coach and save a mint. It's not like he's doing great. A first year coach can do just as well for half the price, shhh, and probably get us to the Dance which CTF hasn't and probably won't either.

This is pretty much happening everywhere. You almost have to with 40% of kids finishing up at a school other than where they started.
We have some dumb fans that thought this was only happening at Western. It was exacerbated here somewhat because Harper was trying to get the talent level up. But you have to do it without driving down the APR. The same dumb@sses that thought it only happened here were running around screaming we were in APR trouble. Which was a flat out lie. They were either stupid or liars or both.
Kermit has been having a revolving door down there for years. Some of our dummies always held up Murray State as what Western should be. Murray has as much turnover as anyone. I read their board and I believe out of the last 4 years they only had 2 players that were 4 year players.
So it's going on everywhere. Coaches trying to increase the talent level. Players mad because the aren't playing 30+ minutes from game one their freshman year.
It's gotta be tough on the coaches. Rare are the days of watching a kid develope for four years and enjoying the fruits their senior year.
