Vince Taylor is likely very good. What about Penny? He can teach a lot about his personal gifts which are shooting, moves to the basket, fast break strategies one on one including passing off, point guard play, assists using misdirection, free throw shooting, and presumably recruiting since he's been coaching high schools. He need not show how to do the really fancy stuff he did himself because they might start all trying to show off and miss, since he was an unusually and naturally gifted pro.
Problem is maybe he is enjoying coaching high school, where he doesn't have to live with the hell stresses of college or pro head coaching?
He knows more about tips on shooting than most anyone. He was just a joy to watch play.
He would only be needing to spend time somewhere as an assistant if he is interested in eventually being a head coach somewhere some day. Head coaching in college and the pros sure is a headache; you can become unpopular for very little very quickly. You would seem to need to come from an assistant coaching job in college or the pros before you could go to a good head coaching job.

VIDEO
Interesting items from this interview when they were at Texas Tech:
Williamson was the first player Smith recruited at Tulsa.
Tech players thought that Smith was VERY intense as a coach. Williamson insists that he's actually mellowed over the years.
The coaching staff has very high expectations for players.

All vacant spots are filled. To add Penny someone else has to be let go.
