I'd rather him be not connected to the program so he can steer kids here.

He's been here two days

As in Rudd and Bowen plan on Penny to be on the staff and that was a condition of Tubby taking the $15 million job.

I dont see Penny being a clipboard holder for 2 or 3 years. If he is, awesome.

Im cool with this with or without. Vast improvement over Pastner, and even if we dont get in the tourney, we should see improvements in play of every player, as they finally move towards their potentials.

this year is a crap shoot but for $3 mil a year we better be competitive enough to get into the tournament next year

We are complaining about speeches when we add Pastner say the same damn thing over and over again?

Trust me, this was refreshing. I could listen to another Tubby story. The Q&A session was a lot more in tune with basketball, so that was good.

Yeah, he's all over the place.

Nervous I believe.

I don't think so. He is just not a BS guy. When he is asked a specific question, he is all over it.

Prepared speeches are tough. I have done enough to know. Never know what type of crowd your playing in front of. Seemed to get comfortable during the Q n' A.

Prepared speeches are tough. Prepared speeches prepared in a short period of time and given in a new place when you have just met 1,000 new people are real tough. He clearly knew he needed to get out of there because he had to get ready to go recruit, so I am guessing he had a lot of things he wanted to say and was trying to say them all at once. Plus, people ramble when they have taken multiple flights in the last 24 hours.

Everyone stop acting like Penny would 100% even take a job as an assistant. It's a very difficult job and he has no actual reason to do it

He did have some mannerisms that reminded me of John Kasich and Chris Farley (in his motivational role). But that's irrelevant. Improve the quality of product on the court.

I hear people say this, but Rod Strickland and Damon Stoudamire had big paydays too and they did it.

It's about Penny's ambitions. If he wants to coach, he'd do it. Damon Stoudamire made a hundred million in NBA salaries.

Gotta love the overwhelming negativity from some before he even has his first practice.

So much for a "fresh start" for the board.

This place never changes, no matter the coach.

Agreed. 2 yrs for tourney, 4-5 yrs sweet 16. Could be accelerated with top recruiting classes. After that, probably on a warm seat. These things have a finite shelf life.

I'm 20 minutes behind, but so far I don't have a problem with the "rambling." I find some of it charming actually. I like to hear some of his past and where he came from - what else do you expect at a press conference? They are introducing him.

Plus he hasn't said anything about having to take steps back.

I'm thinking Penny can be more effective for the program not a member of the staff - much more latitude to help the program, esp. with his AAU involvement.

Why do people want Penny on the staff? I don't get it.

Dude is talking about fundamentals are critical. And he read a book on coaching.

This shows he's way ahead of our last coach.

Because people want Penny to learn how to be a college coach so he can be the 19th Memphis Tigers coach.

Maybe we can do better 4-5 years from now. Just a thought.

Pastner read EVERY BASKETBALL BOOK.

Unfortunately, he never understood them.
