I have heard that Penny will be on the staff. I hope he will. I'm thinking Penny is going to learn under Tubby and then Penny takes over. To me there's no way Tubby comes here if he didn't think he was about to be handed great players. This is my opinion. I really think this is going to work out great!

Had to go with "We'll see." My initial reaction to the idea of bringing in Tubby was negative. Just felt like it was a retread hire from the coaching carousel, and that the Tigers could do better. I hate to just dismiss it, because he has some impressive things on his resume. Whether or not he can parlay that into success at Memphis.....we'll see.

I don't like the idea that he's "an upgrade." Well yeah, I would hope so. You don't simply settle for something/someone until something better comes along. You take your best swing at the best candidate. Maybe they have, no one knows yet.

I went for option 4 but option 3 was also a consideration

I went with Good Hire, but admittedly I'm still deliriously happy that anyone hired our previous coach.

I think its quite possible too.

In some ways, this could be a perfect spot for Tubby. And he brings the fundamentals and floor coaching our program badly needs.

No coach is perfect, and Tubby is not a homerun recruiter. But honestly a pipeline like our city could be just what the doctor ordered for a coach like Tubby.

He's already been to the mountain top with Kentucky. At this stage of his career, setting down and rooting himself in a rich local HS scene could be just what he is looking for.

Went with option 3, but am starting to think it might be a good hire, and depending on who we get as assistants it could get even better. I honestly think if he gets some talent we could be very good again.

ehh hire. not great, maybe not even good. not top 25 hire, if that's how we brand our program.

this is much like going to the grocery store and buying frozen fruit when you can fresh strawberries are in season.

I like this because I think it will be a situation like Larry Brown and SMU. He has great assistants that get him the players.

I don't understand why people are questioning this.

Tubby was forced out to hire Billy Gillespie. Mainly because Tubby followed The Pitino era and that was impossible. Even with a national title and multiple deep tourney runs.

He may be old but he did get Tech into the dance. He could still have enough in the tank to get Memphis turned around. I would go for the guy at Wichita but Tubby would be a good one for what my opinion is worth.

I'm just not into college sports like i used to be (except the tigers), so i'm barely watching anyone else. That's why i have no suggestions for coaches. I just don't watch enough to have a good opinion. I have heard of tubby smith. A long time back when i did watch more college ball, i thought he was getting credit for being a good coach. Just with a quick glance at his wiki page, he has won a championship @ kentucky. He has lots of experience (instead of a 1st time coach), and he is not named josh pastner.

Two things that really bug me. One is wasting talent. The 2nd is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Thankfully, we are not going to do that anymore. So if tubs is the coach, i'll support him just like i did with josh until he let us all down.
