So, has it been definitively established that Simpkins is the good news 757ODU mentioned several weeks ago? If so, I am left with an uneasy feeling that nothing has really been established. Shaky commitment in that the school hasn't acknowledged it, shaky in that he's a non-qualifier, shaky in that he's rumored to be going to B&S of all places. Bottom line: I'll believe it when I see him make his first basket for ODU.

I don't know the answer to your question, but he was never going to come in and play right away. They are looking for a grad transfer PG, someone who can come in and supplement what we already have. That was as of a couple of weeks ago.

it might have been good news at first, but its possible that the underlying layers came up after he heard about his commitment? Personally, I'm not going to count on this kid ever playing here.

My only guess is that we have something lined up for a grad transfer PG. Who knows?

Miller's reporting leaves a lot to be desired. He could have at least addressed some of the obvious questions, such as, why not give a scholly now if he's so good and others are sniffing around?

My understanding is athletic scholarship money is use it or lose it. In other words, if you don't fill it, you can't take the money and put it toward, say, the practice facility. Is that correct? If correct, that answers your question.

Its a perfect situation. Jones takes the kid when nobody else in D1 would give him the time a day. They strike a deal, come play for us one year on your dime (family's) then we pay your way when nobody else will (till recently), giving ODU the chance to possible pick up one or two more future team mates to make Travis Fields team even better. That is a team first kid and a winner! As his track record already proven. Good student too. We got a steal with this kid it seems. Give me a guy with a little chip on his shoulder any day. I love him already.

I am no expert but isn't that against NCAA rules? We can't provide assistance other than a scholarship until COA rules kick in.

NO I was referring to financial aid from state and federal programs based on need!

Does he qualify for an academic scholarship or does that count against the number of scholarships for the team?

Its pretty obvious they are going to try to get someone else in for that scholly. And with Fields not being recruited, there is no reason to give him one right away.

Says he's from Nashville, this could be where CUSA helps us. He could be within driving distance of home for MTSU and WKU games. If we are really only up against Towson, Radford and Coastal I like our chances.
