I'm sure there is a Walmart near you. Should be able to pick up an Ohio St shirt. That seems more your speed.

Yeah, then you can drool over all those top recruits who underachieve, then transfer out.

Every season we watch the November/December parade of low major opponents through 5th/3rd and often see a lights out performance from one member of one of those teams. I'm always sitting there asking myself, "how does Northwest-Central-Valley A&M have a guy that good?".
Here's hoping Broome is that guy and now he'll be wearing a Bearcat uniform. On the flip side though, we watched Ge'Lawn Guyn average almost 19 points last season after transferring to a low major. This from a player Cincinnati fans believed couldn't score. At some point, one must question UC's offensive approach (or lack thereof). Seems many of the UC recruits were pretty good scorers before arriving here.

Yup
So the Guyn example makes me ask...is it the players or us it the coach/system?

I don't think it is any one thing. I think sometimes coaches fail players, or maybe their coaching style does not allow them to get the most out of some guys. Then there are players like Jermaine Lawrence who was a blue chip recruit, but still struggled when playing in a much smaller conference. It could be a work ethic issue, or a mental issue with some players.
I don't think it is any one thing. I think our staff has made a lot of players better, and I think Deberry is a good example. He was not much of a player when we first saw him on the court, and he continued to improve. I think he has a chance of playing pro ball in Europe if he chose to do so. On the flip side, we have had many frustrating players who never seem to up there game.

Remember that January 2005 edition of Street and Smith's magazine that proclaimed UC the #10 greatest basketball program of all time ( I figure you don't ), sitting right here in my sports room. That is my time there when UC basketball was one of the greatest of all time and that's all I want back. Your two attempts at humor not only are way off base but, truthfully, not very funny. No need to shop at Walmart, just not my style. Good day, on to the golf coarse.

Yeah, it is one of the Top 10 or 15 basketball programs all time. BUT, it is most certainly NOT one of the Top 10 or 15 basketball programs RIGHT NOW. And that's what matters.
Sorry for the snark, but it is exhausting to hear our entitled fan base act like we should just be falling into deep tournament runs. Time to wake up, we had a mid-major mindset for far too long in our athletic department, and while that isn't the case anymore, it caused us to fall far behind a lot of other programs. We haven't been past the sweet 16 in what is it, 20 years? That spans a period farther back than just Mick, and that limits our credibility to TODAY'S basketball world.
The issue is, we have a combination of an administration that didn't treat this as a Top 20 program, and then a fanbase that didn't treat this as a Top 20 program after the Huggins fiasco. You think people would have stopped coming at other schools, even if they ran off a highly successful coach? Certainly not.
If we want to be a great program again, we all have to do our part. The admin has to do their part, Mick certainly has to do his part, and we as fans have to support the program, however we can. If our fanbase isn't big enough to do so (and I don't believe this to be the case), then we aren't getting back to those days.

If this happens, Mick will do his part, and the fans will follow. Not since Joe Steger and Bob Goin have we had real leadership, vision, and the 'skill to achieve' with regards to UC Athletics.
The 'skill to achieve' has been Ono and Babcock/Bohn's biggest downfall. Lots and lots of lip service (including tweets, FB posts, Instagram pics, and artist renderings) but zero results.

Its often that they are playing against competition that is grade 13-16 of high school. If anyone thinks Guyn does that here against the schedule we played they are hitting the chronic.
Broome went 3 of 16 from the field against UCONN for 7 points in 38 minutes. Take from that what you will. Perhaps they keyed on him. Perhaps he was just exposed by having quality athletes on defense. Time will tell.
Like I said earlier, I expect him to contribute about like the overlooked, lower tier JUCOs that we tend to target.

Fair point, but I don't think extrapolating that is fair. I think, as you mention, that Broome also won't be keyed in on as the bulk scorer on this team with the talent we have, and that will surely help him to take better shots he can make.
He'll also get, no offense to Sacred Heart, better coaching than he ever did there. Getting a guy in a high quality weight room with dedicated strength coaches and some positional coaching will help him improve his game, as will practicing against that type of defense every day in practice. Our guys don't consistently wilt against UConn because we see that type of defensive intensity every day. We don't get surprised by other defensive teams' play.

I gotta agree too. Talk is cheap. I want program growth, not plateauing (and arguably in the case of football, decline).

UC player goes 1-6 and 0-2 from 3 in 34 minutes against UCONN this year. But I didn't hear a peep that Evans was overmatched. or doesn't belong on the roster..
Caupain 3-11 vrs UCONN and 8pts in 36 minutes.
A nice try at hypothetical, but your logic is flawed. Get him on the court and let's
see the eyeball test...the fortunate part is that the professionals (Coaches) do the recruiting, not the fans..

I thought Nancy got us into the Big East?
SuperFly, I was there and I was one of those who was booing.
