Memorabilia Oddity
I don't generally solicit business on a message board, and if a moderator wants to delete this feel free. Today I stumbled across something I thought might be of interest to a UAB fan and wanted to let y'all know.

I work as the CFO of an auction company just outside Hattiesburg. We have a contract with PACA and Jefferson County to liquidate surplus equipment and vehicles. As part of the contract we were recently asked by the Jefferson County Coroner to sell unclaimed items that were in storage. We generally deal in heavy equipment so it piqued my interest to see what sort of things we'd be selling.

Anyway, amidst the various odd pieces, I saw an 82-83 UAB basketball Sun Belt Conferenxe championship ring. It looks a lot like a class ring. It has a green stone with "100" embedded in the stone. On one side it says "UAB". On the other it has a basketball player silhouette with the name "Foster".

it will be a few days before we have all the lots online, but if anyone is interested, let me know in this thread, and I'll post a link once we have it ready.

If it belonged to Tracy Foster, there's no way it is an 82-83 ring. It would either have to be from 1984 (his first season he transferred in) or 1987 (his senior year).

LOL...even though I totally quoted it...I read it as Tracy Foster for some reason...when all he said was "Foster".

Good call on that one.

Correction, Luellen Foster. He was on the final 16 team as a freshman and on the final 8 team as a sophomore and played along side Mincy and Mitchell during their freshman and sophomore years.

Coroner?
Lu Foster hasn't died has he. Last I knew, he worked security at the downtown library.

Unclaimed items?

Maybe he lost it.

Does his mom still work for the bookstore?

We should buy it and give it back to Lew. He might not have ever received it the first time around.

I've got the first $20

That is the correct spelling, Luellen "Lue" Foster.

The key might be based off of what the ring is made out of and what exactly is the green stone.

If it is gold plated with an emerald like stone it may be more valuable than if it wasn't.

I remember my class ring in '85 costing a couple of hundred dollars.

Ebay has Conference Championship rings for ~$600. But it is an SEC ring. I can see the folks wanting that one to overpay.

And when I graduated from Bama in 1963, a 14 kt gold men's senior class ring was about $50 -- and I couldn't afford it with one child and one on the way.
