http://recruit757.com/basketball/bryant-...irst-year/

Doesn't do him any good to just take classes....... non qualifiers have to graduate from the JUCO to be eligible at the next institution.

It actually saves him a year of eligibility if he only takes classes.

No it does not. To transfer to a four year institution, he has to meet the following:
2.5 transfer GPA
48 transfer hours (only 2 hours can be PE)
6 hours of English, 3 hours of math, 3 hours of science
Attend the JUCO for at least 3 FULL TIME semesters.
Graduate

http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/16800/pd...M_ID=16800

He has to go full time, so if he enrolls this fall, his 5 years starts (even if he doesn't play basketball).

2016-17 at JUCO
2017-18 at JUCO
2018-19 4 year
2019-20 4 year
2020-21 4 year

If his plan is to spend two years at a JUCO and not play competitive basketball that's dumb. He is at that JUCO for at least 3 semesters (highly unlikely he is going to earn an associates degree in 3 semesters).

Like I said before, none of this makes sense

What about prep school? Is that a possibility? Does B&S offer anything like that? This is where pulling a Marshall or A10 and taking a non-qualifier helps. Get him in the system, tutoring, acclimated, structured environment etc. Get his grades up and the likelihood of him transferring elsewhere are drastically diminished unlike prep or juco.

B&S is a four year school. I wonder if the fact that it is a four year school changes the transfer rules.

Has to sit a year and can't play first year (due to being a non qualifier)
If he transferred to another 4 year, he would have to sit a year (due to transfer).

He would only be able to play 3 years of college ball.

Does he have to sit for transferring even if the school doesn't offer basketball?

I believe he would, because he is a non qualifier. Is B&S a for profit school?

Unless I am looking at the wrong B&S, they have basketball.

If B&S is a 4 year, he would have to sit a year. If he chose to transfer after that year he would have to sit another year (as a transfer).

If B&S is a 2 year, he would have to graduate and stay 2 years (unless he can graduate in 3 semesters). But I dont know if a JUCO kid could play 2nd semester at the 4yr.

I think his plan hasn't been thought out at all

Looks like for profits can compete but not vote (read an article about Grand Canyon).

The whole B&S thing is very confusing. You can earn a four year degree there as well as an associates, but I seem to recall having hear that their local campus will play JUCO sports. I feel like the article I read was about baseball. I am not sure how they would be classified in terms of NCAA transfer rules. If the kid goes there for 1 year, and does not play basketball, it seems to me that his 5 year clock would start, but not so clear that he would be forced to sit for a year after a transfer since the school does not offer basketball as a 4 year school. I feel like there may be a loophole that allows him to go there for one year and get his academic standing straight then transfer somewhere to play immediately. It doesn't seem likely, but who knows.

Kind of what I'm wondering. If he's a non-qualifier, wouldn't he be better off taking a year of post-grad high school at an established school like Hargrave or Fork Union? Get his academics in order, play with a team of D-1 prospects and (good for him, not as much for ODU) get more recruiting attention.

5 year clock starts as soon as you enroll full time somewhere. I had a teammate who was Mormon and his clock stopped so he could do his mission, but I think that and military service are the only things that disrupt your clock.

He would either trigger 4-4 transfer (would have to sit out a year because he transferred) or a 2-4 transfer. I don't think he would be eligible to transfer without having to sit another year due to the fact that there is a basketball team on campus.

There are cheaper junior colleges to attend. He'll be spending a lot of money ($8600 per semester) at that school.

I don't believe his situation can be improved. The new rules have kids who have everything but the GPA doing something called an academic redshirt. By the sound of it, he isn't close to being an academic redshirt.

So I saw that someone posted that signing day was April 13. Does this mean that we have to have our grad transfer or whoever else we get committed and signed by then? Or, is it a different policy with graduate transfers?

I guess that's when signing day starts 757. I remember in the past Blaine would get some players much later then this, not sure when the signing period ends but I'm sure someone will fill us in this morning!

There does not appear to be an end date to the spring signing period for basketball

Don't be surprised if any news on transfers are slower than maybe a HS player signing.

Tomorrow is looking uneventful, but he brings up a good point. No need to reach.

True. We are in pretty good shape. But a good experienced PG and one more three point sniper could put next year's Monarchs over the top.
