It was at that moment, in that room in the senate Republican caucus when I heard people, a Party I had fought for for over 30 years of my life, actually giddy and happy and talking about how we can take people's Constitutional rights away, or at least impede them, in order to hang onto power.


“It left a pit in my stomach to think that a party that I had worked for for years and years and years was literally talking and plotting to deny someone, a fellow citizen, their constitutional right,” Allbaugh said.

Allbaugh told TPM he was stirred to write the initial Facebook post after one of his young employees, who had moved from California to Wisconsin, was unable to vote Tuesday. Albaugh said that because the employee's California ID did not meet the state’s requirements to vote, he was told he needed to show his California birth certificate, which the employee was not going to be able to produce in time.

“When you see the real world ramification, it just sickens you,” Allbaugh said. “I have to tell people what’s going on.”

Good, sounds like the system is working. If you cant prove you are legally entitled to vote, you dont vote. It isnt hard to do IF you are legally entitled to vote.

You do know that when You move from Your state to somewhere else, You are supposed to get a new drivers licence and transfer Your Cars tags too within so many days in most states. A California ID in Wisconsin usually won't let You vote in Wisconsin, Kentucky or almost anywhere else but California. Did that person register to vote previously in Wisconsin with that California DL and did They accept it then ? ?

Explain again how producing an ID at the polling place is disenfranchising voters? I have to produce my drivers license everytime I go to vote. It's to verify that I'm voting in the correct polling place and proves that I belong to the area and am thus within my rights to vote.

Based on this logic, why should the gov't enact any laws that prohibit my right to own a handgun and carry it concealed wherever I go? Why should I be forced to provide a photo ID for purchasing a handgun?

Get a valid ID. It's not that hard. In fact, its much harder to get by on a day-to-day basis without one.

Yeah... it's an obvious lie.

Nobody EVER says 'look, we can take away people's Constitutional rights so that we can hang on to power'... That's not how anyone talks... Instead, that was obviously 'his impression' of what they were saying.

1) He believes that requiring ID takes people's Constitutional right to vote away. That's a fine opinion, but it isn't supported by any facts. Nobody has shown (that I've seen, and I've looked and asked) ANY person who would lose their right to vote. They show statistics implying it, or make straw arguments, or they show people who failed to notify the appropriate people and places in time for an election... who were STILL allowed to vote back where they used to live, or provisionally where they now lived... and if it mattered to the outcome, their ID would have been investigated.

Obviously those on the other side don't believe it takes away anyone's rights.

2) He believes that they are doing so so that they can hang on to power... but if the intention is to stop 'illegal' voting... and THAT is what allows them to hang on to power, isn't that a GOOD thing? (not that they hang on to power, but that illegal voting was stopped) And yes, they may have laughed at what they see as stopping Democrats from stealing elections (whether you agree or not).

So yeah... It's a crock... it's an opinion not supported by facts. It's a fantasy cooked up in someone's head.


If the conversation were honest, we'd realize that the people most likely to be impacted by this isn't poor people who need ID for most benefits and skew left, but instead 'separatists' and religious nuts who hate the government and skew right.

These laws are really, really, really easy to comply with. They make it harder for the Democratic machine to use their well practiced methods to cheat in the inner cities where they have no competition.

And yes, they do make it less simple for lazy, uninformed voters to vote. That's why the Democrats are so opposed to them. They know that lazy, uninformed voters are much more likely to vote for Democrats.
