Wall Street Journal..College Basketball most valuable programs....
Once again Louisville is the most valuable with 3 out of the Top 4 within a 100 mile radius in Kentucky and Indiana...the Jayhawks are 2nd with UNC the most valuable left in the Final Four:

I'm fairly impressed by 20th considering how relatively unimportant basketball is at UA.

RE: Wall Street Journal..College Basketball most valuable programs....
Quite surprised to see 12 of Big Ten's 14 teams in top 32 revenue-makers nationally. Only Nebraska (53rd) and Rutgers (80s) were off the radar. The next best conference (ACC) had 7 of the top 44. Definitely makes me think about the power of the Big Ten's TV negotiations. Basketball takes a backseat to football, for sure, but the Big Ten has a strong shotgun driver.

Also, PSU is 30th? For real? When you think about performance vs. revenue...PSU has to be the lowest performance with the highest revenue, right?

EDIT: Just saw Alabama on there. They definitely rival PSU for biggest discrepancy.

I have serious doubts as to the legitimacy of their methodology.

The B1G has more banked NCAA credits and its teams play in much larger arenas. Michigan plays in the 3rd smallest B1G arena. 9 ACC play in a arena smaller than UM. I count 4 ACC arenas that seat 15k+. The B1G has 8.

The Nutter Center has a higher seating capacity than Cameron Indoor, and given how much this ranking seems to be based on arena size, it would be funny to see Wright State be ranked over Duke.

Two Elite 8's in a row for the 102nd most valuable basketball program. Not bad.

I wonder if Mike Brey could do better if ND actually gave a **** about his program, like, I dunno, have an arena less than fifty years old and...gasp....its own practice facility...

Louisville leads: top 25 most valuable college basketball programs
[Image: 12294688_10156817872570037_8706680118806...e=5775FE67]

I'm mildly surprised Kentucky is at number 3, let alone not number 1. And look at UCLA, behind Tennessee and Alabama and not in the top 20? Northwestern is right behind them, wow, such a valuable program despite never appearing in the NCAA Tournament. And UNC not in the top 5? They must be weighed down by being so close to Duke and NC State.

We were there well before the Yum lease. Louisville is a one of the largest cities without a major sports franchise. U of L is the "pro" team of our city and is the recipient of local corporate dollars.

From Kristi Dosh of The Business of College Sports:

"First, let me clarify that the men’s basketball team was the 21st most profitable program during the 2009-2010 season – before they played in a new arena."

I would recommend everyone follow this young lady on Twitter. She and her husband Chadd Scott offer some unique insights into college athletics, both on and off the field

The Yum just expanded our #1 in the nation revenue stream....the Louisville Athletic Program was 21st Overall in the nation before the Yum Opened due to Basketball....the Yum wasn't the cause of our #1 status...07-coffee3

Lack of luxury seating in the Smith Center has more to do with UNC's placement.

Exactly. Back before the Yum center even opened, in 2009, Louisville BASKETBALL was #21 in top revenue teams. The other 20 were FOOTBALL teams.
