You have to be careful when you mention the Big East here. There are a lot of...BE haters on this board.

The Big East never left. Nice to see that the general public is starting to notice that.

Only the couple of butt-hurt fans of AAC conference teams who wanted to but never got to play BE ball.

The Big East had a few kind of down years, but it's definitely back now. And the thing is- Xavier was 30 seconds away from beating Wisconsin and would have had a good shot vs Notre Dame. So it's not just Nova this year.

Villanova is having a great postseason after having a great regular season. That doesn't excuse the rest of the Big East from their poor performance in the tournament.

Hey, they might be as well if they started offering classes out of the African and Afro-American Studies department.

poor performance? WTF are you talking about. Providence and Butler both won games as 9 seeds. That's what they were supposed to do. Seton Hall got really unlucky with their draw, but even so, they were a 6 seed. Only Xavier underachieved, and even there- it took a great play to beat them. Give me Nova and Xavier having happened exactly what happened over Nova and Xavier playing to what their seed was.

Exactly!

I think the BE has sometimes been unfairly criticized since the split. Saying the BE had a poor performance in this season's tourney is unfair when two teams won a game and lost to #1 seeds in the next round and another had to play a game that started at 11pm eastern out west against a west coast team that was under-seeded.

That leaves the two #2 seeds. One lost on a buzzer beater and the other is one of two teams playing Monday. I think the PAC-12, B1G, and SEC would take the Big East's tournament results but I guess people can say they had a bad performance if it makes you feel better.

I really don't get SH fans complaint about Gonzaga being underseeded. I mean, Gonzaga did what they did I know. But regular season they didn't do much at all. You can't just seed based on potential, you need to seed based on what they had done, and regular season, Gonzaga hadn't done much. The WCC was not a good conference at all. And OOC they lost 4 games- and really only good OOC win was vs UConn. They went only 3-3 vs the top teams in the WCC. I'm sorry, but that's a 11 seed this year.

I am not a Seton Hall fan but I do believe they weren't an 11.

talent wise, no way were they a 11. But based on what their resume had, they were an 11. They had all of 5 top 100 wins. 16/25 wins were sub 200. Overall SOS was 107. I'm sorry but that screams 11 seed.

To Seton Hall's credit, they played Gonzaga closer than Utah did....

oh yeah no doubt. Seton Hall was victim to a bit of bad luck for one- 11pm et start time when a game before it goes to double ot. also and we've seen this numerous times before a team has a real high in the conference tourney, and then crashes in the 1st round of the ncaa. I would say for Seton Hall even- it's the type of high their program hadn't seen in years.

Unbelievable game by Villanova. They have affirmed and secured the Big East's rightful place as a power basketball conference.

The future for the league is as bright as ever, and - without football - that is as strong a statement as the league could have made.

The journey is not yet over. Win Monday, against the odds, and there critiques and criticisms evaporate. Go Nova! Go Big East! Go non-Power 5 schools! Go underdogs!

A 67 point swing between Villanova and Oklahoma. That's mindboggling.

RE: THE BIG EAST!!!...
This tournament is a preview of the future of college basketball. The ACC Tournament Champ will get a bye into the National Championship game and the other 66 teams while battle to see who will get to face them for the title.... 04-jawdrop

It should make for a more balanced tournament and open up a guaranteed two spots in The Final Four for the underling basketball conferences outside the P1. 07-coffee3

It is believed The ACC is pushing a further change to the tournament structure to hold The ACC Tournament Championship game on the Saturday of Final Four weekend as The ACC will always have two teams in The Final Four. In reality the conferences outside the P1 will be playing for two spots.... 03-lmfao

If that model seems familiar, it's the one used to set-up the college football championship game until the play-offs. Seems outrageous doesn't it? Just replace The ACC with The SEC.

Funny how the model is immediately recognizable as satire for basketball but was considered acceptable for college football for years....

Good luck to Villanova and North Carolina Monday night....

Didn't need that major to beat Georgetown for the title. 04-wine

RE: THE BIG EAST!!!...
I've said it before about other conferences so I will say it about the Big East: One team does not a conference make, you have to look at the totality. E.g., UConn winning 7 tournament games the last 3 years while the entire rest of the conference winning two doesn't make the AAC a good conference. Neither does its #8 RPI rating.

In the case of the new Big East, the totality is pretty good, as indicated by the season-long RPI and Power numbers, which have consistently put the Big East in the top 5 conferences all three years of its existence. The tournament performances the first two years failed to match that but this year it has.
