I will. Estimates range from $250-$500 for it including install. Correct me if I'm wrong.

my dad kinda wants one...they have a washer/dryer in the garage...it can plug into that, right?

That outlet is probably no more than 30 amps. While it would work, it could easily take over 12 hours per charge.

To get the charge time down, you would need something in the 50amp size. 50 amp wire is really expensive, so it helps to keep the wire run as short as possible. In other words, the further away from your panel the wire has to be run for the outlet, the more expensive its going to be. #6 50 amp 2 conductor wire will run about $1.50 per foot.

Wonder if that is going to start being standard in new higher end homes. 50 amp outlet in the garage.

And building the garage on the side of the house where the power mains come in, so that they can put the panel in the garage. Thats the problem with my current house. The panel is on the opposite side of the house than the garage.

yep, it's a 3 prong 30 amp...if you back the car into the garage, it would be within 10 feet of the plug...he figured he could just use this to adapt the plug

http://www.cn-supplyinc.com/rv-dogbone-a...aQodT_kJ6A

but 12 hours...really? damn...

I'm pretty sure i read that the standard Tesla S power plant (they have an upgrade as well for more distance range) is 12 hours on a 30 amp. So yea, it would work, but charging for that amount of time would get old real quick. And if you dont fully charge every time, you wlil get to the point where the batteries constantly drain below 50%, and the battery life will be greatly reduced. And those batteries will set you back some coinage.

and honestly, 12 hours would probably be fine...

they're both retired (kinda, dad still plays 3-4 gigs a week), but he's a musician (upright bass) so he needs a gig SUV, and uses his 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid for that.

they just like to have a luxury car for going out to eat, and driving around town...he has a 2014 Mercedes C class that only has 7,100 miles on it...he wants to sell it and use they money to get a Tesla 3

they could start with the 30amp, and upgrade if they need to (what would that cost 150 bucks for a new plug?)

I'd love to not buy one but ultimately my tax dollars are still winding up in that charlatan's hands and his fraud company.

They'd need a new outlet, plus new wiring to handle the 50 amps. Since they have that dedicated circuit already, it shouldnt be too bad, as long as the wire run is relatively short.

60kWh battery is what is standard on the car.

If you pay .10 per kWh (which is roughly what I pay in Charlotte I believe), it'd cost $6 to "fill up."

If you recharge at Tesla Superchargers, charging is free.

there is a small storage room in the garage, and that's where the breaker box is...so I can't imagine it would be that long of a run.

the farthest they would ever take it is their place at Horseshoe lake, and there's a standard plug in the carport there...or Tunica, and I bet there is a charging station there, somewhere.

It's only $1000 to reserve it and you can do it online. They're probably in line for a test drive. Also the 1k is refundable if you decide to opt out at anytime. This car will be a game changer. Now I'm not a global warming fanatic, far from it actually, it's all bs to me. But the thought of transitioning to a true electric excites me. This car will be a game changer.

I have driven the BMW i3. I would drive that car today, if the range was greater.

As for the Tesla S- I just visited the showroom in the Chicago area. I would drive that vehicle today. The range is 270 miles.

I work from home and don't drive much. But still manage over $100/ month in gas just for one car. It'll be worth it for me. I may change my electric plan to one with free nights and I won't even notice.

Well, it may make some modicum of sense for you.

The cars just don't impress me. A coworker has a Model S that is crap. It isn't that fast, raddles like crazy, rides like crap, and is just a poor automobile. As soon as the novelty wears off they are just poor cars.

There is a reason we take my car.

There is just no way this new model will be decent. These cars are all hype and no substance.

He must have gotten a lemon because I've never heard any of those complaints. I know some of the early model S cars had some issues with the drive train, but I've never heard anyone complain about poor rides and noises.

Even the base Model S goes 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. If you don't consider that fast, you're insane. If his isn't going that fast, he got a busted car.

It's the same age as my car. We got them around the same time, a few months ago or so.

It's far from the only Tesla I've ever been in that raddles like an 91 Toyota. They are not well built vehicles from that standpoint.

Yea, as I said, not that fast. But, if you drive it hard at all it won't come close to a 200 mile range.

There is the novelty of it being electric and having a lot of torque right off the line but other than that they are just atrocious to deal with, live with, drive, etc.. If all you want is an electric car go for it but compared to vehicles in their price range they are sub-standard.

The P90D version goes 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. It doesnt get much more insane than that.

I believe they call that Ludicrous mode. I'd love to experience it. I heard it feels like riding one of those rollercoasters that take off really quickly with electromagnets.

The P90D version goes 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. It doesnt get much more insane than that.

04-jawdrop Impressive.

RE: Tesla Unveils the Model 3
0-60 is the least important measure of speed out there.

It's AWD and doesn't have a torque curve of course it is quick.

The company by any measure remains a total fraud dependent on sleazy carbon credits. The cars are total losers by themselves.
