some of us already knew this
it's why the coaches leave
it's why the players leave
On the outside he's overly nice, but on a personal level he sucks. can't relate to people, thinks people should be just like him and can't understand when they are not. Get's MAD when they are not

He knows if he blames it all on the coach nobody will sign him. Coaches are like cops, they try to protect their own and will ostracize players who criticize former coaches because they're concerned that'll be them one day

Have we reached the conclusion that JP should not be the Memphis coach?

I think we have moved past that to the "never be a head coach again" conclusion

I mean, how can you force pastner's hand though? His reputation is toasted. Nobody could give him a head coach position again

RE: Shaq talks w/ Jason Smith - very revealing ...
The fan base and lack of support did affect this team, and it will next season if we don't stop with all the negative energy. I'm not a huge fan of Pastner but when your team is down, well that's when fans can really make a difference, for better or worse. We as fans didn't help this team or staff perform at its higher levels this season. It's why I'm trying to take the positive road, and yes I'm hurting like each of you. I wish we were on a roll but if we are going to get there, we need to help all we can imo. Anybody can cheer on a 30 win team. Josh may not be the solution to get us where we want to be but maybe with some help from us he can focus less on fan pressures and more on the program. Same thing with our players. I'm discouraged Josh may be so dictatorial, as he apparently lacks the ability to put the pieces together in a complimentary form, but hope he will get there. We are stuck with him, maybe we can help him and our players right this ship. Maybe not, but there is no sense in buying the program alive, let's try and heal as much as possible. Thanks guys, I hope this makes sense, it's not a plea for Pastner as much as it is for our program. Those who are hurting and angry, I get it, I really do and I appreciate your passion. It's sad, especially after being on top to seemingly fall so far but if we keep what we have and reel in some team players, we can have a good season next season. Lawson is very, very talented.

Thoughtful post.
That said, screw that. The university doesn't deserve my support if they won't fix the obvious problem. This is a mutual relationship.

So what hurt the team last year? You know since we filled up the forum for sucky coached team that year. That was before we all found out that Pastner was a terrible coach and they still lost to freaking Tulane at home.

You have to TRY to get a job before you know that. He has not tried.

This is just further evidence that the situation with our beloved basketball program is simply toxic right now.
How could anyone be recruited into the program as it now exists? Who, objectively, could look at the program and not agree that it is in free fall.
Sadly, because of the crazy contract, I just don't see a reasonable exit strategy at the moment. We are really in a bad situation.

You're a good guy tigerpawer. I respect the way you conduct yourself on this board. That being said, if you and me and the administration and boosters want the fans to come back to the forum then there is only one thing to do. Get rid of Josh "The Program Killer" Pastner, and the fans will return. The fans aren't going to suck it up and support the basketball program until Josh is gone. It's an easy fix.
