not what I got from the article. He bashed Josh left and right in his responses, all while still holding back.

First off the interview questions by Smith are embarrassingly bad. He constantly tried to put words in Shaq's mouth. "Do you love him?" give me a break, sounds like E! TV.
Very amateurish.
Secondly, I don't trust anything Shaq says. His actions speak louder than words and his actions the last two years have been bad. He still doesn't seem to think his TF at Tulane was a big deal. He is talking about how they could have laid down but didn't. HUH, um yes you did lay down. And that's a source of pride for him? SMH.
And lastly, we all know the program under JP is kaput. It should have been done three weeks ago. What a mess.

Cringe worthy is the perfect description. Does make me hesitate to have any ill feelings for any of the players who leave the program.

for real? one of a total of four players who stuck it out, even though he graduated early, and you're going to bash him?
dude could have gone anywhere and he didn't. he stuck it out, he tried. what else could he have done this year? we are really blaming a tech (that turned out to be a 3 point swing) for us losing to Tulane? For real?

This article says so much without Shaq saying too much for fear of retaliation. No wonder no one hardly comes back.
That is the burning question. Everyone knows he's struggled to grow as a coach. Maybe even regressed. To a point where fans are threatening to stop supporting h or already have stopped. Why are they keeping this relationship going? What do we not know?

What a revealing piece. Bizarre, sad, telling and almost a sick parallel to any AE crime documentary (minus the actual breaking of the law) depicting some sort of Jeckell/hyde personality.
Pastner truly makes Ray Dempsey look terrific and that's clearly saying something.

Right, Tigerlands, if the article had been written 3 weeks ago, all would be OK. You are really reaching.
I'm not the biggest Jason Smith fan. But I thought his questions were spot on.

It takes a lot for a player to come out and say that about his coach when he's working on getting signed to a professional basketball contract. We all know that he held back plenty in this interview. But, he revealed just as much.

Q: What do you think could help fix this Tigers’ team this year from what you’ve seen?
A: Honestly man, we’ve just got a young team. We had so many transfers over the years, man, and so much stuff happening. Things still haven’t got into place when people thought they were in place. It’s still a sketchy and weird situation for players and the coaches. We haven’t found a niche of what Tiger basketball is yet. That’s just the truth. I can’t cover it up.
Q: Is that a coaching flaw?
A: No. I’m not pointing fingers. That’s not what I’m trying to do. That’s just the program. It has nothing to do with the coach. If you look at teams around the country, you’ll be able to know. Florida, you know how they’re going to come out and play. Arizona, you know how they’re going to come out and play. Memphis, we have to find out our niche.
Q: With the slow start this season, there’s been a lot of fans that have said it’s time for Josh Pastner to go. There’s a lot of fans that want him to be fired and there are even accounts on Twitter that are trying to get him fired. What do you think of that? Do you think he’s the right coach for the job?
A: Honestly, man, it’s not my role and place to say. That’s something that I won’t even voice an opinion on. As a respectable young man, I don’t really even need to be talking about that. Coach Pastner, he helped me out with some things on the court. He helped me out in life. He taught me some good lessons. I won’t never take that for granted.
I’m not going to bad-mouth nobody. That’s not the way you do it. At the end of the day, it’s about winning. That’s with any situation. In the NBA or overseas, if you go there and you’re not winning, it’s a chance of somebody getting cut. It’s a chance of somebody getting fired. That’s the business.

RE: Shaq talks w/ Jason Smith - very revealing ...
You never knew where you stood ... that's the story with all of Josh's players, maybe with the exception of Chris Crawford.
I think it boils down to Josh not trusting himself, so he is always backtracking, trying new things, reversing course. Which, naturally leads the players to question the coach and results 7 years in, in Josh Pastner's teams having no identity, nothing you can hang your hat on.
Think about a Bob Huggins team, regardless of the talent level, they are going to play in your face, physical and aggressive defense. Roy Williams, gonna push the ball up the floor at all times. Jim Boeheim, recruits players that will thrive in his match up zone defense.
The one year, we were going to press, play 90 feet, run; he abandoned it a few games in after supposedly working on it all pre-season. He constantly searches for a solution, which results in Sam Craft going from football player, to starter, to end of bench; when truth be told, the solution rests in being consistent, believing in yourself and your players, and sticking with a solid plan.
To further augment the problem though, there is no basis to believe that Josh's plan would be solid enough to work even if he stuck with something long enough for it to potentially do so.
