There are talented acts and there are popular acts. As a musician, I can tell you with certainty that Rush, Journey, REO, Styx etc.etc are all talented musicians. Whether or not you like their music however IS a matter of opinion.

why do you not post on the "what am I listening to now" thread on the cusa board?

No way. People might actually start to like me. We can't have that.

And there are also acts that we like that aren't very technically talented but have that special something that speaks to us. The Romones come immediately to mind, the Kingsmen's version of Louis, Louis etc. etc.

I dont know. Both are great artists. Could have been interesting. Lots of people dont know Gill fronted Pure Prarie League in its late stages. I love their rendition of the Johnathan Edwards song "White Line". Gill has one of the purest vocal sounds in the biz.

yes
If you can play as a band at their level and do it night after night...you are talented....period.
Can someone tell me why Lil Wayne is considered good?
Never was overly fond of The Eagles.
Never understood the attraction folks had to Slayer.
IMO, Flock of Seagulls wasn't even good by 80s standards.
How can anyone listen to Dave Mustaine's (Megadeath) or Dexter Holland's (The Offspring) voice for extended periods of time. Their voices just wear on you.
And on that note, WDF with Mase? He was like the most annoying rapper to listen to ever....

Lil W hasn't been good since he was with Juvenile and Big Tymers or whatever that posse was called. Doesn't change the fact he can't rap.... he can best be described as spoken word to a beat.
I can listen to Megadeath and The Offspring for a album at a time...but if I couldn't do a marathon session of theirs...the lead singer's vocals start to get to you.

I will say this....saw them at the Saenger in NOLA as the opening act for the
Cult.....third row as they tossed out 'Appetite' like frisbees......axl can't sing shite live....
Slash might be one of the best live guitarists I have heard.
I like Slayer, but I wouldn't call them great. They are the music equivalent of Kenny Schrader in NASCAR.......talented but nowhere near capable of carrying the series/genre.
I would put Dave Mustaine in the same category.
I have to agree on Offspring. I like select songs, but sadly for them they didn't come up in the ITunes/Pandora age where you could just get what you liked. Sad thing is if you listen to some of their lesser known stuff Dexter has a solid singing voice. It's just the genre at the time forced him to scream. Corey Taylor with Slipknot suffers the same.
