But the rest of the tournament is a joke, since UConn has about a 98% chance of winning it.

Not since Pat Summitt eroded mentally and that 6'8" woman left Baylor has UConn had any competition.

The women's game has traditionally been Tennessee, UConn and then everyone else. Notre Dame and Stanford have had an extended good run at this point and to me the only real competition for UConn. But as Rutgers has slid off over the last several years, I've paid less and less attention to the sport.

Yup, lack of parity for the women and poor refs for the men.

Sadly Breanna Stewart is from Syracuse...

UC Santa Barbara was a tournament regular in through the mid 2000s, culminating with a Sweet 16 run in 2004. We fell off the map quick after that.

You're forgetting some notable names such as Old Dominion, Vanderbilt, Texas, USC, Immaculatta and especially Louisiana Tech.

And whiny fans who couldn't do a better job than poor refs if they tried unless you're a referee in real life and you may be.

I'll give you push. For the last 20+ (?) years, UConn has pretty much been in a class of their own. Tennessee occupied the #2 position for a good chunk of that, and everyone else fought for #3. Now it's UConn at #1 with the rest of the world fighting for #2 or worse.

Schools like Vanderbilt were good (and probably still are), but they were never a real threat to UConn - at least not in the recent to intermediate past.

We lost to UConn and Diana Taurasi in the next round. Small consolation, but we played them closer than anyone else in the Tournament that year. Their eight point win over us was the lowest margin of victory en route to a national championship.

I'm well aware of how good UConn has been. You seem to be unsure about a program like Vandy and how good they were, so not to sound anal but I think I speak from a position of strength in this argument.

And the fact is UConn and Tennessee were 1a and 1b with Tennessee being more 1a because of seniority until Pat Summitt retired and UConn became the dominant force in the sport, Baylor with Griner being the only other real superpower (though Notre Dame had Diggins).

Think all you want, but the numbers are on my side. Vandy hasn't advanced beyond the Sweet Sixteen in about 15 years, and the 'Dores have never won the tourney. They aren't on the same level as UConn.

Similarly, Tennessee hasn't consistently been better than UConn since the late 90's (i.e. roughly 20 years ago), and Tennessee doesn't enjoy the same kind of support as UConn's ladies. I can't quantify the support differential, so don't believe me if you want, but women's basketball is much more important to UConn's identity than Tennessee's. In Tennessee, women's basketball is an afterthought. That isn't true in Connecticut.

To be fair, my thread about grocery stores went about 8-10 pages deep last year.

RE: Lack of parity in WBB????
My point, if you were following the conversation, was that Vandy was very much a relevant program in women's college basketball history, as was La. Tech and those other programs I mentioned.

RE: Lack of parity in WBB????
Louisville's been considered one of the better teams of late in WBB. That being said, they could be playing for the title in my living room and I still wouldn't watch and wouldn't care. Don't get me wrong, it's nice whenever Louisville's competitive in anything...but I won't piss on anyone's leg and say it's raining around here; I just don't care about women's basketball.
