Interesting idea, especially if we could hang on to guys like Savino. We have some assistants that know the recruiting game well, if we can somehow hang onto 1 of them to help her.
I would be on board with her as the actual coach 100% if we have a good plan setup for recruiting.

Andy Furman is really a nice guy, I don't know why he becomes such an idiot when he gets a microphone in his hands.
His job is to say stupid/controversial things to get ratings.

Yes, and he certainly does a fine job in that regard.
Sendek has failed on the big stage. No thanks. UC should catch a rising star and there are some pretty good ones on this short list.

If UC hired Bryce Drew we would be the media darlings if he is at all successful. The media loves that family for some reason.

RE: Short List for new HC (if Mick leaves)
Im reading these names and cant help but go back to that fact we have a coach who is an alum. Really thats about as much loyalty as one can expect. I have no doubt Kevin Ollie got some calls after a national title. UConn doesnt have the greatest arena or in the best conference.
Everyone on that list just seems like a 3-5 year coach, if he is successful he is here 3 years and gone, if he isnt 5 years and gone. Thats certainly sad compared to having a guy wanted to be here for life if given resources
Then again, maybe we need some fresh air into program, would certainly put an end to any Bob/Mick debate. Would give the fan base someone to rally around without any preconcieved notions

Think back to when you were in high school.
It would be an absolute disaster.

For those who are satisfied with the program, Davis as a continuity hire should be a no-brainer.

Anybody think Groce might jump with being on the hot seat? Pretty good coach in a situation that hasn't really worked out. We're a little closer to his career home base.
No. He couldn't win at Furman on his own. He's a great guy but not our next head coach I hope.

If we complete the renovation and make the other investments we can retain a quality coach. Especially if we get a B12 invite. If we don't then it'll be a stepping stone.
I wonder if there's danger of the renovation funding falling through.

Game winner by Bryce in 1998 NCAA tourney for Valpo over big bad Ole Miss while Dad was coach is the reason. The shot was one of the first "made for memory" shots of the modern tournament. That and Homer never left Valpo for greener pastures.

His job isn't in jeopardy this year but he's looking elsewhere?
He's mad because he didn't get a new lockerroom when a plan to build a whole new facility is in the works if he shows patience...he is acting like a spolied child.
5th/3rd is not the reason players are going elsewhere. If facilities made that much difference Duke would suck since Cameron Indoor is a dump and Butler would too since Hinkle is old and outdated.
The guy who "wanted to be here for life" isn't acting like a guy who "wants to be here for life" since he is entertaining another institution's overtures.

To me, this is the biggest upside to Mick leaving. Finally, we can have a breath of fresh air from the outside. No more Huggs vs. Mick or which local boy could do a better job (hey - why not hire Kerry Coombs?!). In reality, Mick has always been (or wanted to be) Bob Huggins. He is just a lesser version that people didn't respect as much because he doesn't have a few key qualities that Hugg did - mainly the unfailing respect of his players (likely from Huggs' days playing and his imposing physicality). Mick trying to use the Huggins model of coaching (defense and recruiting athletes) doesn't work to get us beyond where we are today. And our fan base is hungry for success. We all saw what a breath of fresh air from the outside looks like in the form of Brian Kelly. And while we may be shooting ourselves in the foot and come to regret it, sometimes you need to take a chance with something new to get to the next level.
I get it - Cincy is a conservative town and likes what it knows. But in this case, we need be done with the past 25 years, take a risk and bring in someone with a fresh perspective who will create a buzz in the media and with recruits and install a new system (with offense!!!).

Whoa, whoa, whoa. He uses his own money for upgrades and raises money for this stuff on his own and for charters, etc, and has been since he got here...you know, when nobody on the planet with any career asperations would have taken this steaming pile of a job in 2006?
If we are going to act like we should be sitting at the big boy table when it comes to basketball, we might want to have our idiot AD actually do what he promises to do before he gets canned from a second job. This is about support from the school when it has been promised and not delivered for half a decade.
Don't fool yourself, this is all about tightening the budget. They keep kicking the can down the road and then we get to hire a cheaper coach. Nancy Zimpher would be proud.

I think you're crazy if you don't think Cronin is loved by his players. Maybe not to the extent Huggs is but I think this is one of Mick's greatest strengths. Theres a reason Ellis desperately wanted back here after he was kicked out.
If Mick is trying to recruit athletes he's doing an awful job. His teams are nowhere near as athletic as Huggs teams.

I don't think he isn't loved by his players - I'm worried about the respect angle. Huggs was loved and respected (essentially as a tough love father figure). He was the old school version of dad. He's the guy who got under Bobby Brannen's skin enough that he turned into a monster by his senior year. And Brannen loved and respected him for it. Mick just doesn't command that respect - although he tries hard. And frankly, this is my point. I don't want to have this debate anymore. Let's bring in fresh blood who we can all universally hate or love based on how well they do on the court and for the program.

A little dramatic aren't we? The problem was that UC didn't conduct a thorough search (even though they paid a search firm $250K IIRC) just like they didn't with Tubs. Had they conducted a thorough search, I'm sure there would have been numerous qualified candidates.
