Spring Training
Spring training starts tomorrow, and BW says almost half the team will be running wind sprints instead of being on the practice field. It seems the coaches are really not happy with lack of effort in meeting off season goals and want to change the mindset.

What are we seeing here?? Any reason to be concerned? A less than motivated team sounds on the surface like a systemic problem. Thoughts anyone?

RE: Spring Training
Conditioning isn't easy, but damn does this hurt from a fan's perspective. It is especially troubling to hear that we had O-line players whiffing on entire brackets of conditioning goals. I really hope things turn around quick; another season of slow handwork and cement cleats would make offensive improvement even more of a challenge.

Tight end as well. If we are going to have a chance to win with Shuler, good O-line and Tight end play are a must.

I suspect they got the players' attention.

RE: Spring Training
I got a better idea...you give half an effort...you get half a scholarship. This is horrible news. If any group that should have been really motivated it should have been the O-line. They way they got their asses handed to them last year you would would think if they are truly wanting to be better. They should have been extra work, not less work. They should all be ashamed of their commitment to being better. I bet there are players that would die for the opportunity they have. If they are not in shape by the end of spring practice....pull their scholarship.

RE: Spring Training
I am going to hold my comments about the players until the spring game. I'm sure some slacked off, and others worked their butts off.
I am holding out that the wind sprints are to get the players conditioned for the full game.
Last year, so many last half of the 4th quarter rallies. Those kids have/had heart. Perhaps had the players been just a little bit better conditioned, 1 or 2 more of the games might have gone the other way.

Just my thoughts.

RE: Spring Training
I wonder if SB will be one of those running wind sprints. Maybe why he is not listed as the starter? Seems he has done something wrong to not be listed as the starter over an injured qb.

Coach Wilder has stated since December that David Washington would be the starter once he returns to practice.

Considering he got benched last year I'm not surprised at all.

Wilder is trying to set a tone for the season. There hasn't been any expectations on us over the past 2-3 years so he needs to shake things up and realize it's an entirely different ballgame when there are actually expectations.

They are kids. Most kids are going to get lazy in the offseason.

Is this really even necessary? Why do people insist on dissing the kid?

Are you kidding? This was a question not a "diss." I like SB and thought for sure he would be the starter next year. Take it easy.

This is all about setting a tone. They had some of the same issues last year mid season with the OL. Some didn't take it seriously...they're realizing now that Coach Wilder does.

Because I thought he played well enough through the last two games of the season. I thought it was odd that he not be listed as the starter over an injured QB. It was a question in which I was hoping to get constructive conversation from... There was no insult of any sort. If you find that offensive than read past rather than trying to start up an argument.

David Washington ended the season as the starter last year and has been told that he's the starter when healthy. Bentely gets enough hate on this board that we don't need to manufacture any other "problems."

What a dumb thing to say. First of all, I would agree with you if there was something offensive or insulting said about the kid, but there was not. Second of all the notion that we cant even discuss a player or their place on the depth chart because of the potential for "problems" on an internet forum is pretty ridiculous.
