Apple may have egg on its face
Looks like a 3rd party has come forward and demonstrated they know how to bypass the security on the device. The FBI asked for the hearing, scheduled for today to force Apple to break into the device, to be cancelled. Although the FBI wants to test this method further to ensure it does not wipe the device clean, they are cautiously optimistic that this method does work.

Apple was clearly caught offguard.

The company said that it doesn't know anything about the possible workaround that FBI says that it has found through a third party, adding that they do not want to assume that FBI "has anything" because it did not share specifics on this method with the company.

Aw, so your wittle iphone isnt as secure as you were trying to tell all the terrorists of the world it was.

Later, the apple attorney was trying to spin this as a win for them.

if the government is indeed able to unlock Farook's iPhone, the case would then be moot given that Justice Department's basis for bringing this forward was that only Apple had the ability to assist DOJ in unlocking the iPhone.

uh, duh. Thats because apple is not the only ones who can break into an iphone. Now the FBI can, and apple has no idea how they are doing it.

Way to go apple. By making a big deal out of this, all that you have done is to have proven that your devices arent as secure as you want them made out to be.

lol, you act like it's a contest, or something...Apple is simply trying to protect the privacy of its millions of users.

this is actually good for Apple as they get to claim victory to the shareholders, and device users for protecting their privacy...and the govt gets what they want and stops trying to sue Apple into oblivion.

RE: Apple may have egg on its face
only a dimwit would think that the FBI and random 3rd party people being able to break into a device is "protecting the privacy of millions." Apple failed. And now, on the grand public stage, the entire word knows their devices arent secure.

Also, apple has to hope this hack wasnt developed by them, as their defense in court was that they would have to write something to do this, and they shouldnt be required to write something that could be leaked out. If they already had a way to do it, they lied in court.

All I'm doing is pointing out how stupid the CEO of a large public company was. Instead of quietly abiding by the court order (they were ordered by court to do this, so on that front they lost), they decided to take it public, where pubic opinion is still against them. And for all of their efforts which have been a losing cause so far, now the world knows that their devices arent as safe as they were reporting them to be.

Your city has voted liberal for so long that:

1. They gave up their city school charter because they ran the city schools into the sewer and huge amounts of debt. Of course, you had hoped that by giving up the charter, the county (not liberal) would be forced to pick up all of that debt. FailSuck. Didnt happen. You're stuck with it.

2. The city wants to de-annex parts of it because they dont want to spend the money on the blighted areas (created by liberals) that dont generate tax revenue anymore. They want the county to pick up their failures.

I swear, if you guys within the limits were left to your own devices, you would poison your own damn water due to your incompetence.

Of course, you had hoped that by giving up the charter, the county (not liberal) would be forced to pick up all of that debt. FailSuck. Didnt happen. You're stuck with it. really? surrendering the charter was the correct decision...SCS controls Germantown and Cordova High, both good schools to go along with White Station and Southwind...now if the suburban toy towns want schools, they'll need their own districts, and to pay for it themselves...that's how it should be.

2. The city wants to de-annex parts of it because they dont want to spend the money on the blighted areas (created by liberals) that dont generate tax revenue anymore. They want the county to pick up their failures. the city doesn't want to de-annex jack ****...Nashville lawmakers are attempting (notice it's now stalled in the Senate) to override local government by changing state law.

I swear, if you guys within the limits were left to your own devices, you would poison your own damn water due to your incompetence. If I had my way there would be no city limits...just a merto shelby county government.

lol, I live in a country with a liberal President...in a town that votes for liberals, and has a liberal Mayor...America is my safe space.

Instead of quietly abiding by the court order (they were ordered by court to do this, so on that front they lost), they decided to take it public, where pubic opinion is still against them. And for all of their efforts which have been a losing cause so far, now the world knows that their devices arent as safe as they were reporting them to be.

I'll disagree with this statement, UMU... I think the public was behind apple for the most part on this one. You think the general public WANTS the govt to be able to get into their phones?

As for if the device's security was bypassed...let's wait and see, this is just a 'claim' so far, I don't think there's been any proof to this yet. (You think the govt would say.. "We have a way to do this!" right out in public?

from the story: The government is "cautiously optimistic" that the possible method will work

Sounds to me like that they're trying to sneak Apple into showing their hand...
