[split] The REALLY interesting part of the Sun Belt press conference

We're on board.
Glad to see that, and hopefully when they win they win the SBC Championship next year more people will see the light.
I do like the last 2 GaSo recruiting classes, although I like ArkSt's last two better when you take into consideration all the players they added.
Unfortunately for GaSo a roster is composed of more than one class.
247's 4-year recruiting ranking prior to this last class has ArkSt #1 in the SBC, and GaSo #6, so their was some ground to make up not only against them but 4 other SBC teams. The fact is when you look at all the players they brought in no SBC team closed the talent gap, and in fact lost ground.
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...ball-teams
That the best program in the SBC out recruits the other SBC teams of course is not a surprise to anyone. GaSo certainly will on see the difference in talent when they play them.
Fcs schools are largely ignored in the recruiting rankings so you can't use the 4 year average for Ga Southern and App St. The reality is that Ga Southern has the best record in the SBC the last two years at 14-2 and App St and Ark St are tied for second place. And Ga Southern by far has performed the best out of conference among the three schools. And it should be noted that Ga Southern and App should just now start to see the impact of the additional 22 scholarships as most have been redshirts or freshman.
First, you seem to get the false impression I don't like GaSo or AppSt. I'm on record here saying they are two of the biggest gets in realignment, and when it comes to football I would not swap them for ALL the teams that left for CUSA. That is hardly a put down, and i expect both to be a counted among the very best G5 programs.
ArkSt is still the best 'program' in the SBC by any measure(only the fact the P5's cannot resist hiring their caches is why they have not been more dominant than they have been, which was pretty dominant), and going into next year they still have the most talented roster of players in the SBC, and among the best in G5 and that is also a fact.
I thought you had the best team in the SBC last year, but ArKSt still had the most talent, and best program. They just got hurt by another coaching change that was a direct result of their success.
As good as they are, GaSo, and AppSt have a way to go and a lot of $ to spend to have the best program in the SBC, but may have the best team from time to time.
But the FACT is ArkSt has both NOW, and that is a fact, you cannot spin doctor that away( this is not a put down to your team, just a fact about their program), although you certainly try too.

Nothing to contribute, just want to say that Arkansas State and Wichita State should join the MAC together.

No top 25 ranking, no P5 wins since 1998, no impressive OOC wins and bad losses to Toledo and La Tech.
Arkansas fights the same problem in a he sec. In almost 25 years they still haven't won the sec and I he two times they won the west the games were blowouts.
They have overcome a lot of obstacles to become the best program in the SBC but that does not change the fact that they are in fact the best program in the SBC.
As far as the bad loses by this staff in their first two years, their bosses, and fans seemed to have excepted the excuses the coaches gave (the coaches just prior to them did not stick around long enough to give excuses for their bad loses).
More importantly all parties understand that losing to any SBC team anywhere, anytime is unexceptionable, losing to any other G5, or middle-of-the-pack P5 at home is unexceptionable, losing to all but the very best G5's on the road is unexceptionable, and beating a high profile P5 program from time to time is expected going forward, as in 2016 on.
The expectation is to represent the P5 in their post season bowl game sooner rather than later. I am confident they will reach their goal, and while I expect 11-1, 12-0 is definitely doable for 2016, and they know it.
Maybe they could go 12-0, but until they actually can stay with in 14 points of Toledo. Its a possibility, but Toledo will run it down their throats again. Injuries or not.

Arkansas winds up with the better players in the state, but messes them up big time where they wind up going to UCA, Arkansas Tech, Tulsa or in Mitch Mustaine's case, went to USC.

After Piggie, they really have no in-state football competition. Add to that the fact that their facilities are in the upper end of their conference and the idea they could accumulate more talent than most other SB teams isn't really all that shocking. Given the massive disparity between the G5 and the P5, I'd say its impossible for any G5 to have "maxed out" their potential.
Yeah, Arkansas State --- they can definitely still go higher. As you said, they are a clear #2 in the state: they aren't catching Arkansas but neither is anyone catching them.
Consider the following states, all with a population within 10% of the state of Arkansas. Consider their "#2 teams" and you can see what ASU should be thriving for:
1) Iowa: Home of 2 FBS teams. 2nd best at football (typically) is at the lower-tier of the Big XII (Iowa State).
2) Utah: Home of Utah and BYU. Less clear who is "2nd best at football" among those 2, but the level of that 2nd best is definitely higher than ASU right now.
3) Mississippi: Home of 2 Power 5 FBS teams, plus Southern Miss.
4) Kansas: Home of 2 FBS teams. 2nd best at football (typically) is at the lower-tier of the Big XII (Kansas).
5) Nevada: Home of 2 MWC teams.
Iowa State, BYU, Mississippi State, Kansas, UNLV. No annual college football playoff contenders on that list, but all but UNLV have had their moments over the years. I can see Arkansas State reaching this type of level in the longer-term (10-20 years) future. Arkansas as a whole is growing slower than the national average but the NE part of Arkansas is growing faster than the state as a whole.

If you went by over all talent the games should have been close, and while the recruiting gurus have Toledo with a little better talent in those game , it was not by much. Both were at the top of their respective conferences in recruiting per 247.
A-States HC, who seems to be pretty solid as far a coaching, but even better at making excuses, made a compelling case that injuries to the DL in 2014, and not having their starting QB accounted for the lopsided scores.
Made a similar case for 'bad' loses to AppSt, and TxSt in 2014, and they corrected that in 2015, so the excuses may be legit.
This year I give A-State a slight advantage over Toledo in talent and they get Toledo at home.
I have them going 2-1, not 3-0, to start, just said that 3-0 is 'doable', and don't have them losing any other game after those three.

Waiting for the massive hot gasses in this thread to implode onto themselves causing a black hole that will suck both programs in...

Sorry, know the A-State fans here have not really liked me using their program as a example of how to build a solid program the last 5-6 years but what can I say.
Hate to break the bad news to them but the best is yet to come. A lot better in fact, like it or not.

Not trying to defend a particular poster, just a more general point. I looked up his criteria for top 10-15 G5 rankings, and Ark St is definitely a top 20+ program. Their future is bright.

Did y'all just send me on a snipe hunt? Cuz, I looked up the data and that's 2 hours I'm not getting back. Granted, it was from 1:30 to 3:30AM, when I'm normally praying for sleep.
