RE: Pulling apart the BIG XII
back in 2010 Iowa State may have gone to the Big 10

http://www.foxsports.com/college-footbal...010-072615

Honestly at this point 14 teams is good for the B1G, unless they break into pods I don't see a real need to expand that much. I would love watching the CyHawk game be a conference matchup and play Minnesota. The B1G would be easy games to travel to, and I wouldn't have to fly to quite a few. At this point the only way I see Iowa State getting in is if the Big12 falls apart and they want to grab another AAU school. Maybe it could be KU and us, but like I said I'm not holding my breath.

Texas would put its olympics in the reformed Big 12 if it goes independent. Too much interest in playing traditional rivals and schools. It would also help ease the potential political sting and backlash by keeping the Big 12 a viable option for the other Texas schools.

An independent Texas could keep its yearly games against TAMU, Tech, Baylor, and OU while playing a more robust national schedule. It's olympics would still be in a very strong conference. Its a move that would check all the boxes of maintaining a strong regional presence and identity, not going scorched earth on the Big 12 at the expense of Tech, Baylor, TCU, and Houston, gives Texas flexibility where it counts, preserves historic and traditional rivalries, and provides a quality conference for no football sports that is geographically sensible for Texas.

Would the reformed B12 allow texas's sports to be in the big12? I feel like it would be like a slap in the face, "we are leaving the big12 for football, but here take our other sports because they need a home"

That was my thinking.

Plus if Texas had the same deal as Notre Dame, they'd keep their network and the ACC would then have an even 16 basketball teams.

If Texas scheduled 5 ACC teams in football each year, they could still play Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and Oklahoma and still have room for 3 cupcakes on their schedule.

Big 12 West
Baylor
BYU
Houston
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas Tech

Big 12 East
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Iowa State
Kansas State
Memphis
West Virginia

I'd bet the Big12 leftovers would opt to play each other more often and stay mostly in the same division. Something like this:

Big 12 West
Baylor
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Iowa State
BYU

Big 12 East
TCU
Houston
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Memphis

OR, you also add Navy and USF/UCF and do this:

Big 12 West
Baylor
Texas Tech
TCU
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Iowa State
BYU

Big 12 East
Houston
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Memphis
Navy
USF/UCF

Keep the 9-game schedule and get Navy into Texas in most years and a foot into Florida.

Didn't say it was better - just more likely; the legacy Big 12 teams would prefer to play each other each year.

I would say this is mostly true. I know the big 8 teams would probably want to play each other (all three of us). They may try to even out the texas schools though.

My preference, based on your prediction:

SEC: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St.
B1G: Kansas, K-State, Iowa St.
ACC: West Virginia
MWC: Baylor, TT, TCU

If your AAC prediction comes to pass:

Move Navy and Memphis to the East
Add Army

I don't see K state to the big ten. If big ten was expanding west and they can't get OU, I would hope they would grab Iowa State and KU for the two Midwest AAU schools. 01-ncaabbs

"All 3 of us from big 8" Actually 5 right? ISU, KU, KSU, OU and OSU were big 8 teams til the end. UT, TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech from the SWC and of course " the island" none of the other 9 want to play. Cheers!

Kansas St will never be in the PAC. The ACC would pick up ISU and WV. The league needs better football teams in the middle. WV is an instant top 3 ACC team, ISU is the 8th best out of the 16. Cheers!
