Bama grabs Bowling Green WR Gehrig Dieter

How big of a hit will this be to the BG offense? Also the article says he has 2 years of eligibility left but he is a graduate transfer so how is that possible?

BG's website says he is a 2011 HS graduate. Maybe they mean 2012, and 2011 was his senior season?
2012 - Played at SMU
2013 - RS at BG
2014 - Played at BG
2015 - Played at BG

So he already played 3 seasons, with 1 RS. So the article might have an error.

Article has now been changed to say he has 1 yr of eligibility left.

It appears he will have to get the NCAA's approval first. A player who has transferred from one D1 school to another is ineligible to be a grad transfer without being granted a waiver (except in the case of the first school dropping football).

He has one year left. He also looked into Wake Forest to play for Clawson who recruited him to BG. Like most players, he wants to maximize his chances of playing in the NFL. If he can get some playing time, he'll certainly have more eyes on him in Alabama than BG. There is a thread on AZZ and most posters understand and wish him well.

It sure adds to the losses BG has on offense. We have some promising young receivers but not much experience. Pair that with a new coach, new QB and our leading rusher gone, O is a big ?. But we do have Knapke with a full season of experience at QB, Coppet at RB and Moore at WR so we are not completely lost. Out entire O-line is back minus 1. A lot of opportunities for some young guys to step up.

Ideally, RS freshman Morgan (**** recruit in 2015) beats out Knapke at QB. Landry and Redding play to their potential at WR and Rhodes lives up to his ***** billing in the slot with Moore. With Coppet, Domer and Wilson, we'll be fine at RB.

I completely understand Dieter's decision to leave. Alabama has incredible facilities and he has a chance to walk into a defined role with a National Championship contender. His brother and girlfriend are also graduating from BG this spring so he doesn't have a lot of incentive to stay.[/quote]

Why are folks down on Knapke who won the bowl game year before last? And what happened to the kid who came in for Knapke in the Toledo game that year and threw a TD on his first drive?

My understanding is that Cody Callaway is focusing on baseball.

I'm not that worried about quarterback. Knapke is solid -- Dino Babers raved about the strides he made in practice this past year, even though he wasn't able to overtake Matt Johnson. Plus, James Morgan may challenge him for the starting spot. We will see.

Gene Cross raved about getting Larry Bastfield.

These kids have no loyalty today. A school gives him a free education and repays them by taking his services elsewhere for his last year.

Alabama doesn't throw the ball like BG so his numbers will likely go down. If he's NFL material it won't matter if he plays at BG or Alabama next year.

At the beginning of the season there were only 4 Bama receivers in the NFL. That doesn't seem like the school to go to if you want to go pro at that position.

And this will be his 3rd school in 5 years.

Easy guys...you don't know this kid at all. He's still a BG student athlete.

It's not like he couldn't get to the NFL from BG. If he's good enough, he'll get a shot.

I'm not down on Knapke...I think he's a good QB. Morgan is the future at QB, ideally he wins the job this spring and has four years running the show. I still think we'll contend if he doesn't and Knapke starts

Arguably, every player on UT's team has two since they own BG.

No...no...they don't. This is just the kind of delusional fantasy land thinking that lead your SID to produce a document claiming 1,000,000 MAC titles

Yes, this is interesting. Bama doesn't have a great record of putting a ton of receivers (or quarterbacks) into the NFL.

Defensive players, O-linemen and running backs...sure....but not much from the passing game.

Especially considering how many MAC receivers have gotten their shot, with many becoming successful (Jennings and Brown come to mind)
