The Cincy Enquirer Follow Up Story on UC/Big-12 Emails
President Santa Ono has led a quiet and diligent effort to position the University of Cincinnati to join the Big 12 Conference, one that’s won high praise from a powerful official who is key to deciding whether the league will expand.

The university released emails, travel records and other documents to The Enquirer last week that give insight into the UC’s attempt to join a Power 5 conference – a move that would position the Bearcats among the haves in a growing schism in college athletics rooted in television money and influence.

Almost all of the documents from late 2014 and early 2015. Consistent with what I have heard.

Same here.

Ono has brought out all the big guns. I also heard that Nick Lachey has agreed to perform at the OU Homecoming Carnival for the next 10 years.

Here's hoping that the Enquirer's meddling and public revelations don't sour the Big XII on Cincy as a prospect.

Didn't reveal much other than Ono apparently needs a Glengary Glenross refresher course on closing. A-B-C----Always Be Closing! Where is Alec Bauldwin when you need him?

I had no idea that Oklahoma was an ally. I believed that this was a hill to climb.

I think that OU is an ally of expansion itself. However, I also think they're an ally of the B1G, and there is a lot of posturing going on - in which there is a lot of misdirection involved.

I think they want out.

I wonder how these articles make Aresco feel. This conference is perpetually going to be a potential springboard to the P5.

I don't think he's worried about Big 12 expansion personally.

I'd rather he goes hard after Wichita or an Air Force/CSU combo, but I don't think he sees the Big 12 as a threat.

The sportswriters will write what generates clicks, and he knows that.

Yeah, I suppose they brought up the subject at the recent AAC meeting, just for grins.

Why not... The MWC brought up Rice and UTEP for grins. You always have to cover scenarios.

The fact of the matter is, this "haircut" that the Big 12 was talking about runs completely contrary to what we have heard about the networks adjusting to pay 11 and 12 the same slice as 1-10.

There is a lot of information in the public sphere that is dubious at best.

I think Aresco is acting on information that he knows to be true. He's a connected guy and is going by what his contacts are telling him. I really don't think he pays the dirt writers any mind.

Even if UC has to agree to get significantly less tv revenue, they'd still take the invite in a second. Ticket sales would explode, there would be more marketing opportunity, and ncaa revenue would probably be higher. Imo, cinch is deserving of a P5 conference. They've made the commitment to facilities, they're competitive historically in a lot of sports, and they have a great academic profile.

Actually Boren publicly stated that. The problem is it only covers football tv contract revenue and not bowl money etc

Yep, as usual Homer has no clue, it does not cover playoff money, bowl money, tourney money, sugar bowl tie in money etc.
