True, but it's even better to have a "guy" who can recruit AND motivate/plan/coach. Norvell wasn't the 3rd highest paid coordinator in college football for nothing.

VT needs to remember which combination is best: so-so rankings and superior preparation, motivation, and discipline VS highly ranked classes and people who have no business trying to run a program.

Porter's classes were more highly ranked than Fuente's........and they got pummeled like 47-3 by the likes of Arky St.

That is most definitely the case. Fuente never really "wowed" on the recruiting trail here, at least by prospect ratings. Porter was much better in that respect.

Half of porters class never made it to campus. Porter also was a position coach. Mike Norvell and Justin Fuente were OC and the HC right hand man. They had prep in running a team.

Half is a little over the top but he did lose some as non-Qs. JF did benefit greatly from Porters talent.

Porter recruited some absolute studs, especially on defense, that stuck around and made our 2014 team really special. Let's face facts.
