Richard Dawkins disinvited to atheist conference for "offensive" tweet

Funny that a band of self-described free-thinkers can't handle feminism being criticized or scrutinized in the same way that fundamentalism is. Apparently there are no sacred cows in atheism, unless it's the idea that evolution left the sexes with dissimilar sexual proclivities or unequal abilities with certain types of cognitive tasks.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....Dawkins is a loon...

I can't listen to the guy...

and those forums are no different than threads like these that appear on this board....

might as well toss in abortion and gun control....

believe in your faith.....you only have one life (as I believe).....and I feel fortunate to be able to express that in my way when challenged....if I can make it to Costa, my arse doesn't say one fk'n word about it....I'll only enjoy my last few minutes of time

people that feel the need to argue their faith as the instigator is not where I wish to be....

IMO, that is what is fair and equitable...challenge my posit, and it all becomes fair game

RE: Richard Dawkins disinvited to atheist conference for "offensive" tweet
Atheism is not a political movement and it never will be among the majority of people who profess to be atheist/agnostic. However, that doesn't prevent a group of people who will try to interject politics into it. I've heard of a group of people who subscribe to this movement called "Atheist+" who add such things like Feminism and other SJW ideas into their "brand" of atheism.

This is not unlike all facets of life where people ALWAYS try to interject unnecessary ideas into an overarching idea/concept to attempt to piggyback their views into relevance. I believe the "Social Gospel" was a turn of the century phenomenon amongst the protestant churches to add SJW principles to their religious practices. The Catholic Church in particular is notorious for having a political slant among a number of members related to SJW ideals.

this basically describes that 'humans are humans' and will always 'fight against' in a certain manner....

it's a nolo contendre situation as a whole....most humans cannot comprehend the concept....they don't look at it from that perspective....

edit: there will always be those that politicize....I agree that atheism is apolitical....

Leftist progressives view Christianity with scorn and contempt.
Hard Atheist view Christianity with scorn and contempt.

For that reason some on each side thing it's a natural marriage. Some of the more clear thinking atheist see through the mess, they realize secular progressiveness is in fact a religion.

Another blanket statement. No, not all leftist progressives view Christianity with scorn and contempt. I find the idea that people have faith entirely human and good. The problem isn't Christianity. It's some Christians.

Thanks.

Words are nice and all but the actions and rhetoric of leftist progressives speak for themselves.

I also said nothing about the progressives view of faith, I was speaking of sound doctrinal Christianity.

By the way theremay be a very small percentage of leftist progressives who are the exception that proves the rule

I don't fault them for injecting social issues into atheism. I'm sure no one would mind someone giving a talk about what they see as threats to separation of church and state at an atheist conference. I do have a problem with people claiming to be all about reason and objective evidence while advancing SJW ideas that are best tenuous. A lot of things things feminists harp on (e.g. the wage gap, social construction of gender, "suppression" of female sexuality) simply can't stand the scrutiny of at least some evidence.

I've said it before, but I think that Godless physicalism and biological equalitarianism are on a collision course and these SJW atheist types know it, so they are pretty aggressive at trying to muzzle opposing opinions.

Exactly. It's the hypocritical Christians that bring about the bulk of any scorn or contempt.
