Which would be my argument to those that knock Memphis for firing him, if he's so great why can't he get job equivalent to Memphis or close to equivalent to Memphis.
If he got a head coaching just, it'd be at a WAC or CUSA level school. He'd probably kill it at Southern Miss.
But likely he'd get a job as assistant at Arizona or whatever NBA head coaching job Luke Walton gets next season.
If he couldn't succeed here, why would he be able to succeed at Southern Miss, a place where he'd never get the level of talent thats given him what limited success he's had at Memphis.
Well he has had success here, just not at the level that needs to be reached for the University of Memphis. Most schools out of the top 50 would be more than happy with his record and NCAA appearances. USM would love that.

Josh isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He might retire here with his name hanging from the rafters. Let's get behind him and give him the support he needs.

If that's true, there will only be about 6 people at the retirement ceremony.

Depends on what Josh wants...he could be a head coach at the mid-major level or an assistant at a major program. The pay - not that it matters much - would be similar. I could argue both could be good or bad for his career, depending...

Are you serious? Have you even been to a home game and seen how many empty seats there are. I'd say it's a little more than 9. Some of you Paz lovers are beyond belief. SMMFH!!!!

Mike and Mike were speculating that Luke Walton gets an NBA HC job next year - could easily see Pastner as an assistant.

After the performance of the Warriors while he was interim, he's guaranteed to get a head coaching job.
Phoenix, maybe? Pastner would love that.

Unless there is language saying he can't get another coaching job while we're paying him, we still have to pay him.

I *think* I remember reading that if he gets another job (after being fired from Memphis), he is owed the difference between his memphis salary and his new job's salary. But I cannot find a definitive source for this part of the contract.
But i do know there is nothing saying he cannot go and get another job
Maybe some of the Twitter folks here can ask the CA.

Most contracts work that way. Porter's Texas gig saved Memphis a few bucks after he was fired and the university still had to pay the remainder.

Right, but the resources and recruiting advantage he's had at Memphis are completely different. There's no reason to think he'd be able to (kind of) dominate CUSA from Southern Miss the way he was able to from Memphis.
In fact, there's every reason to think they'd get these last two years at Memphis or worse, since he's given "not even NIT" performances with better talent than he'd pull to Southern Miss.
He's been a mediocre coach here. He'll probably be a mediocre coach there. And if he is, he will be mediocre compared to their baseline, not ours

A school that has had NCAA violations might see Josh as an answer.
Josh is not as great as some claim and not as bad as others claim. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Some schools could see Josh as a perfect choice at the perfect time.

Not a bad thought. His squeaky clean image could help a school facing sanctions.

Now that's funny.
Maybe you can follow Josh when he's gone. Be mindful of your blind loyalty to him.

Porter only got paid $60k from Arizona St (state minimum I think) and the rest came from Memphis ... No incentive for any other school to pay more than a minimum amount ....
