Nope. The loss to the Blazers in 2011 that cost USM a BCS Bowl is the loss that USM fans that love to go after UAB can't forget. That burn is evidently still burning hot.

Can confirm. Was there. Still salty.

Is this list in the link from the USM beat writer?

"Nussmeier is one of a handful of coaches who were scheduled to interview with Southern Miss for the job, joining Golden Eagles defensive coordinator David Duggan, Alcorn State head coach Jay Hopson, TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and North Carolina defensive coordinator Gene Chizik."

Clark must have said thanks but no thanks.

Or it could be the other way around.. we just don't know.

Nussmeier's intriguing, and he's not one I would have tapped as head coach material, but looking at his resume... he'd try to keep the high-powered offense going. (his stint in Michigan didn't go so well, but that was a Coach HOke thing).

the props that Michigan gave him

Props that Alabama gave him

Fresno State props

So basically, he's been OC at some a very high-scoring schools and now wants to move to the head coaching ranks? Sound Familiar?

I have no problem with DN if he's the selection. I'd probably actually really like it.

He also runs a pro style offense, under center system. I don't think it will be able to take advantage of the players we have. Also, he's running his offense with 5 star players. I just don't want another sec coordinator.

This is starting to remind me of the Sadler hire, i.e. I wonder if McGillis is struggling to find candidates who are sincerely interested. Nothing about Nussmeier's history or our situation seems to "gel" for me. Nuss seems most at home taking pro-style QBs at well-heeled programs and coaching them up. We don't have a pro-style QB, and I think Mullens is probably pretty self-sufficient at this point.

The 2012-2014 seasons were tough, and Southern Miss was not very good. But any of those teams would have destroyed the team UAB had in 2015. Oh, wait. Nevermind.

I was told by someone that usually knows what is going on that Clark interviewed with McGillis yesterday. Also told that Clark will NOT be the next coach at USM. I can't verify, but this guy usually knows what is going on.

I had sympathy for Southern Miss.

Now, I hope Ellis Johnson returns. For at least 10 years.

Um, what Florida game(s) did you watch?

The ones I watched had the QB in the shotgun the majority of the time.

He actually runs out of the shotgun... a lot.

He did this year, but hasn't historically. His history shows that he normally is a pro-style, under center style offense. One year doesn't change his history.

I think that's most likely. but the discussion of the other candidates never hurts.

Yeah but if it is Duggan I don't understand why he's drawing it out given the timing of this whole ordeal.

true. and you cost us the sugar bowl. and fedora couldn't beat you to save his life. all true. but UAB also busted our loss cherry. we'll always have that. that alone makes UAB a mixed bag of mostly happy dance.

because if it goes bad, he can truthfully claim that her conducted a proper search for a replacement. this is all CYA, period.

Sad. I've blamed a lot over the years on AD laziness. Hasn't always been well-received, but I stand by it.

Valid, but these are some pretty big names being interviewed.

RE: [Merged]Todd Monken resigns; new Tampa Bay Bucs OC
With tomorrow being the start of the last weekend of official visits I would hope our AD would announce the new HC either this afternoon or by noon tomorrow. I know several recruits have taken to social media to claim their allegiance to USM and are still solid commitments but the longer this drags out the worse it could become with the ones who are on the fence. Also, we traditionally have 3-5 switch on or the day before signing day when a P5 team comes calling. It would be helpful to have the HC here so that a backup plan can be there.
