Wow, now THAT would be cool. I graduated the same year as Majerle from Central Michigan University, and watched him play many times. That dude was a warrior on the court before anyone knew who he was. He proved the PHX fan base wrong when they booed him upon his being drafted.

Hmmm. I didn't expect to see his name come up here, but holy cow, that's a very interesting thought. An NBA great, name recognition, and very likely to leave Grand Canyon to come to Memphis. If Josh were to be dismissed, I'd be beyond thrilled to see this happen.

I would imagine Majerle wants to live in Phoenix given his coaching career so far.

In his third year at Grand Canyon and has them at 18-2 with a win @ San Diego St and a neutral site win against Houston. He will be a hot commodity very soon.

Cool. IF it came to pass that JP was out, I think a Majerle-type coach would be very intriguing. I'd be all over that.

Most listen to Gary Parrish making sure we know our place in the world!! I bet a lot of those guys would listen hard as long as we aren't trying to go cheap.

Did you forget what happened in 2009? There is a reason why Pastner got the job in the first place....no one else wanted it.

And that fact has not changed. These coaches knows the record of the program and know that it is a no win situation. The fans expect a non elite program to be at an elite level full time.

I like Majerle. What he has done at Grand Canyon is very impressive considering it is only their 3rd year in D1 basketball.

RE: THE LIST
I live in Oxford and can tell you that Andy Kennedy would be a horrible choice. He's hard nosed, probably will never have a losing season, but has a low ceiling. Ole Miss fans have been fed up with him for a long time. Due to the bar being so low for Ole Miss Basketball, he has outkicked his coverage by a mile. I would rather keep Pastner than have Kennedy and I NEVER thought Pastner was the right choice. Say No To Kennedy!

No, the fans expect the Tigers to beat UT-Arlington and East Carolina at home.
They expect a guy who was handed a program with a top 10 national attendance to be able to put 15,000 people in the seats of an NBA arena that is next door to the city's party capital.
Pastner, as a first year head coach, had the #1 recruiting class in the country - every aspiring coach in the country should have noticed that. The fact that he proceeded to do diddly with it and STILL has a $10M buyout protecting him from being fired should also peak their interest.
It should be Memphis, UConn, and possibly someone else every year and everyone knows it. The fact that the best team in the conference this year is disqualified from postseason play should mean Memphis waltz's into the NCAA tourney. Complete underachievement and all the admin can do is wring their hands.

Every coach on that list should at least listen to what Bowen has to say. There isn't a single head coach on that list that is at a program that is a head-and-shoulders above Memphis, and that includes VaTech.

No one may have wanted to follow in Calipari's footsteps since the team was under NCAA investigation and no one knew how bad the penalties would be. This is a COMPLETELY different situation in every way.
