How many of you are satisfied with basketball program?
Notice I didn't say "happy." But I want to see how many here are in fact satisfied or okay with Pastner and what the program is right now.

At this point would anyone be upset or disappointed if Pastner wasn't retained for another year or two? I know we have people who love Josh as a person and obviously that impacts the lense they view him and the program with.

Would we lose any fans if Pastner was let go? Or would they just fawn over the next coach?

RE: How many of you are satisfied with basketball program?
It depends on what you mean by satisfied - the tiger basketball fan in me is not satisfied. The logical big picture view is that it is do or die in football with an ever widening gap between the haves and have nots.

We have a basketball coach with a 10MM buyout and while the prevailing thought is that there are 2 sets of boosters, one can't help but think at least some support both.

Sort of related - anyone see the stock market lately? Anyone wonder if the big boys wealth has taken a slight hit?

I think Pastner is here for another year much to the chagrin of the average fan.

Look at the team coming back, minus Shaq, Burrell. Oh my.

I would be disappointed if he's retained and I think there is a 99% chance that he will not be.

Not satisfied. This is year 7 and we are looking at back to back years without even making the NIT... This will also mark 3 out of 7 years without making the NCAA tournament.

I went from season tickets and not missing a game to giving them up and not going to a game. I have absolutely no confidence in Josh. I suppose you can chalk me up as completely unsatisfied.

Not exciting but it all comes down to economics. The boosters and admin has to make the decision for a change and then come up with the buyout $ plus cash for a new coach. If there are enough bball boosters who still buy into the Pastner cult of personality like some of the adamant defenders here do, he's not going anywhere.

It's not outside of the realm of possibility for Memphis basketball to be looking at 3 consecutive years of not making any tourney. And the mind boggling part is that the racecar guys and mimi's of the world would be defending it.

I think it has very little to do with economics. More about the egos of those who pushed for JP's extension.

I curse that extension on a regular basis.

Not satisfied. If the last seven years is the new standard for success then we should not be charging top 25 like ticket prices and per seat donations . We are paying for a fillet but only being served a sirloin

I wonder what the over/under is on threads similar to this before JP is no longer the Tigers coach, and you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition.

Good question.

Here's a comparison between Pastner and Steak.

I think most would be satisfied/okay with Pastner if he was still under his original contract which paid him approx $850,000 - $900,000 per year. (A good somewhat inexpensive "top sirloin" steak at Outback)

However, 3 years ago, Memphis decided to give Pastner a huge raise into the top level of coaching status to $2.65 Million per year (Aged Filet at Ruth's Chris) and I think that impacts one overview of the program.

Right now I think Memphis (and fans/boosters) are paying for a beautiful aged filet but are getting an inexpensive Outback Sirloin in return (not a bad cheap steak but WAY over priced at that level).

Not satisfied with either the job being done by Coach Pastner nor with the direction of the program. That said, I'm probably in the minority in that I believe he will be retained for 2016-17.

I agree. Still need 3 million for the athletic facilities campaign not to mention all the proposed projects on both campuses. I hate that money would have to go to someone who is already rich beyond my comprehension instead of into the endowment, or academic programs, or the athletic facilities, or academic buildings.

Good news - his buyout next season is only $8MM
