Excitement in the Air
I find it frustrating reading all the bashing of the administration over the selection of a new head football coach. It should be an exciting time and we all should be full of anticipation. I am confident they will get it right. Almost all of the names that have been floated would probably be good head coaches. Personally, I like the coaches from Charleston Southern and Colgate the best. But, as I said they are all good candidates.

The idea that this is taking too long is comical. The sheer logistics of meeting with candidates and negotiating takes this long. I believe this will be a great week to be a Duke and we will all get behind the new coach. I am looking forward to spring practice and the new threads about the new offense and defense, who the assistants are and their backgrounds, the new recruits they bring with them, etc. There is a lot to look forward to.

Haters, give it a rest for a few days.

Excitement in the Air
I believe we will lose a few recruits like cole Johnson to Texas state but the new coach will replace defectors with other guys.

I have a hunch that it would only take this long if it was a superb hire... Anxious and hopeful for an early week announcement

It's probably because other coaching hires have happened quicker than ours . Using this Carr company I already have my opinion on the hire, so I assumed it will take some time.

I totally read the thread title as "Excrement in the Air" on first glance and thought "Oh geez, more negativity."

Hear hear, BSKB. It's a process, and if you want to get it right, you get it right on the time frame that it takes. Every week is a good week to be a Duke. Whenever the hire is completed, I'm confident it will only affirm this.

RE: Excitement in the Air
Sometimes people seem to forget that JMU is only half the equation in these type of situations. I suspect there are quite a few coaches who would have immediately agreed to a deal the next day, but is that really what you want? How long is too long? I have no idea, but (unlike the baseball situation) I know that JMU wants to close a deal ASAP.

Agreed. Withers left at the worst possible time in regard to recruiting but JMU will hire a quality coach and the Dukes will recover from this bump in the road very quickly. Our stadium, fan support and tradition of success will outshine the coaching change.

Us "experienced" guys agreeing. 04-cheers

I don't see where at the point the admin has done anything wrong during the EW two years or current hiring process. Quite frankly I'd be. More concerned if they over rushed the decision.

Also hopeful somehow the CUSA new television contract will somehow benefit our entry.

The is the best "team" I think Brady has had, although not as talented as his third year team.

To be quite honest recruits that work for on coach may not fit another. The timing of the change will hurt recruiting badly whether we decide today or next Monday.

Of his first two years of recruits, only 3 started against W&M.

If the recruits stay - great. If not perhaps it allows for another Vad Lee type transfer.

Keep in mind if it's a current 1AA coach, we will likely get some of his recruits.

amen. I quit reading the other threads on Saturday.

For every Withers recruit we "lose" we'll recruit someone else. It'll be alright.

Chris Beatty would be a good recruitment hire. He's also someone who is a maverick coach and moves around frequently.

Agree with you BSKB 24. I too am excited regarding who the new coach will be and positive things that will come from it. Some of the negativity on the boards can be disconcerting at times.

I'm told by credible source citadel coach mike Houston is at JMU today. He very publicly hosted CID football recruits Saturday. Stay tuned
