Pitt finished 8-5 this year in a down ACC. There's no reason why you guys kind go up there and give them one heck of a game. I actually thought this was a really nice schedule addition. Reasonably respected team, but very beatable.

Wow, UH is gonna destroy us? How far Rice has fallen with your favorite coach leading the way..... He is 2-5 against mighty UH. If Rice can't compete against AAC teams, drop out of Div 1.

C'mon now. You've got to do better than that. Tom Herman and millions of dollars of investment are what got UH to where it is today. You know as well as I do that UH has left Rice behind, and in a big way.
Anyway, I don't want to hear all the bellyaching around here when we start off every season 1-3 or 2-2. Don't dare do it, and don't blame the coach when it happens.

Just because I'd like Rice to play a manageable nonconference schedule doesn't mean I want Rice to drop out of D1. Where does all that come from? We'll be in the MWC by then and won't even be thinking about the sorry AAC or CUSA. We'll be in the best G5 in the nation, not in some conference where we play creampuffs every Saturday like we do now. We won't need an overly challenging nonconference schedule in two years.

Agree. I'm perfectly fine with this schedule addition. Maybe give us some visibility in a region of the country we don't usually get.

We need to play some P5s OOC in football to make up for the bad CUSA conference schedule just like we do in baseball.

Tom Herman did it in year 1.....And Rice lost to UH with Levine as coach.

But as you say, 3 more years!!

Maybe by then Boswell will have established himself as a Steel City icon, and he can be on the field for the coin toss, to the frenzied applause of all fans in attendance.

Am I missing something here? How can you guys get excited about games that won't even be competitive? Are we lowering academic standards for athletes and hiring Nick Saban or something? I missed the memo.

We were competitive with UH when we last played them...

Hate to say it, but that's no longer true.

RE: Pitt Added In 2017
Congrats to Rick Mello for putting together these changes to our schedule.

I don't like losing either but I also don't like stumbling, bumbling against Wagner. IF we have a new HC by 2017 and he can make the same or close to the improvement that TG made then we HAVE a chance to be competitive or at least not God awful against teams like Pitt. Remember not only did we nearly beat UH in the opener in 2006 (and quite possibly beat them had Chase not hurt his hand in the 3Q) but the next week we lost at UCLA by 10 (26-16) when the previous year we got drilled 63-21.

I'm tired of reading comments like "I don't like directional schools...I don't like playing teams I've never heard of....I don't like playing teams that are Sun Belt like" and then turnaround and reading "playing Pitt is too hard, playing UH is too hard...playing anyone is too hard". We have to start on the road back to relative respectability somewhere and at least now we are getting games with teams that everyone knows (and getting bigger money for it). If you recall Fred's teams started back to respectability by scheduling teams like Wake Forest, Iowa State, Northwestern, Tulane, Navy, and Duke. His first year we were 2-8-1 with the first win coming against SMU who were returning from the Death Penalty, so it wasn't like we were racking up 6 or 7 wins BUT we were in most of the games. Get a new HC and a new mindset in the ath dept offices and on the field and let's see if if this can't be turned around....but at least try and seeing these scheduling changes says to me we are trying at least in the AD's office. I understand 13thOwl's perspective...I hate NRG as much as he does but as long as the AD's office is attempting to breathe life into this program I will go. With RG in charge no way in hell would I go.

Easy. Hire a coach who can beat them.

Sure, Rice needs the money, but at what cost? Injuries and embarassment. We already did this during the Hatfield era, and I hate to see it start up again now.

I agree. Great schedule and it is great to travel to these games on vacation.

Ab-so-f-ing-lute-ly.

WTF do people want? We've got to do one or the other. Actually, right now, Rice has to do some of both.

I really don't understand what some people are thinking. Maybe that's because they aren't.

I hope you guys aren't referring to me, because I've never complained about CUSA competition. As a matter of fact, I've mentioned several times that CUSA is a young and improving conference. We've been down this road many times before. Rice has always had to sacrifice itself for paydays and I hate what it does to our team. It's exciting, but it usually ends badly in more ways than one.

Exactly. At least roughly half the time. We're still talking about a win that happened in 1994. How many other successful schools have a signature moment that goes back that far?

The thinking part certainly should be referring to you. And why? I highlighted yet another inane, thoughtless statement. And yes, you did whine about playing Pitt and losing.

Ever since Bailiff was linked with UTSA, Afflicted has had his panties in a bunch. Really inspires some questions as to what the bond/attachment/motives are.

Yes, I am concerned about us scheduling so much P5 competition in nonconference play, but I've never bad-mouthed CUSA or referred to it's schools as "directional universities" or "sunbelt-like." Quite the opposite, many times I've stood up for the conference while everyone around here (like you) tears it down.

Your response to my comment is the exact kind of stupid bull**** that I was referring to yesterday on another thread. It's typical of you and of many other posters on this board. It's meant to get me hot and pull me into a meaningless argument. You're an instigator. It's fun to you, but I'm through with it. I don't have the time or energy for it. Have fun playing with yourself around here.

Antarius you need to pull your head out of your @ss. There are a lot of folks here who don't agree with you, yet you condescend to anyone with a different opinion as if you are the be all end all.

They condescension is reserved for a select few. For reasons specified above. Afflicted as well as a certain poster who proudly announced that he had seen the supposed Greenspan masterpiece are two of them

There are many people here who I disagree with but can have a civilized, educated discussion with. Those are people who actually put thought into their posts and have facts. Afflicted is not one of them and frankly, detracts from the board. Parliament typically isn't the place for thoughtless drivel - perhaps coogfans is more appropriate.
