RE: Gary Johnson announces candidacy for President
Unless Rand gets the republican nomination or somebody enters the field who is not there now, I'm pretty sure I'll vote for Johnson if he gets the Libertarian nomination.

For the record, I have no interest in anyone being mentioned as a possible candidate who is not in the field now, just leaving myself an out just in case.

I'm in the same boat. If it comes down to Trump or Hillary, hell, PM me your real name and I'll write you in.

In my case because
1) he comes way closer to my views on the issues than anyone else save Rand,
2) I'm in Texas which is not going to be close enough for my vote to matter, and
3) my vote as a protest vote will have more impact than any other way.

I'm getting boring, I know. I gotta ask, yet again.

There is the largest, and most diverse from any angle, field that has ever run for the office. Especially on the Repubs side, but even still with the dims; as you now have a graying old granma AND an avowed graying old socialist to pick from as well.

Who are you guys picking out of the general public instead? Cause it can't be some Frankenstein-like character that you assemble yourself!

I get being idealistic and all, and no one gets me 100%. Hell probably 75% Max., but there are a few of them there in this field
.
I get that if your State will deliver any way-, then who cares. But too many folks from NC and rust belt etc. Saying the same stupid things.

If you don't vote for who you want, you won't get them ether!

At this point I will again vote Johnson. I may change my mind depending on the Rep. Nominee. I would probably have to be Paul, Christie or Bush to make me change my mind.

Rand is the only republican in the current field that I would vote FOR. If the democrats somehow nominate Bernie or Liz Warren, I will vote for whomever the republicans nominate to vote AGAINST him/her.

So you plan on voting for the marijuana centered libertarian guy, but may vote for the guy who has vowed to go after marijuana even where legal and is probably the least libertarian candidate on either side (Christie). I don't understand.

Not a Cruz fan? I figured he'd appeal to the Libertarians here. Not perfectly but about as close as you can get without Rand.

If somehow it's Trump vs. Sanders, I'll vote third party again. As I did in 2008 and 2012.

0% Conservative Democrats will vote for Trump and Left wing Liberals will back Bernie and Most Republicans have never heard of Gary and wouldn't do anything to change the chance to put all of the ObamaNation damage behind Us with a stake through it's heart !

Cruz will not be the nominee. Here's merely the latest fad.

No, like Ben Carson 3 months ago.

Gary Johnson is a protest vote. If he manages to sue his way into the debates, then he has a shot. Until then he's just a protest vote.

Comparing Cruz to Carson? Cruz has money, knowledge, and savvy. He'll be much tougher to take down. However, I am getting to the point where if Cruz doesn't get it, I may well vote for Gary Johnson as well. Trump is losing me with the birther schit and I feel the Rubio is probably a statist puppet.

Then as a libertarian, what issue is important to you? NSA surveillance? National defense? Christie falls under the opposite of libertarian in all of them. Is there a single issue Gary Johnson and Chris Christie even agree on?

Do you think Trump really cares about or believes the birther stuff or is he throwing this out because he knows the media will cover it non-stop with their hair on fire giving him a bunch more free publicity?

Mind you - I'm not a big Trump fan for the Republican nomination, but I've come to appreciate his savvy ability to play the media for an incredible amount of free publicity non-stop all the time. Hell, he doesn't have to spend a dime on advertising - the media advertises for him free every day.

I'm betting he and his staff sit around and say "Hey, lets go out and say this provocative thing - the media will cover it for a good three days straight"
