The sky is not falling. We are not going to run an air raid. The two men in discussion are current HC's at two of the most successful football programs in the state of GA and have a combined 6 year win percentage of .728 (118-44).

They will be co-offensive coordinators.

Why choose 2?

Really good hire in my opinion. Even if I take the True Blue tinted glasses off this still looks like it has the potential to be a really, really good staff. Lots of people that know how to win and how to recruit the state of Georgia.

Why choose 2?

Both bring their specialties to the table. We'll still be an option team (Gillespie) that will throw the ball as well (Dean)

Its the exact combination we need at Southern. Fritz was not able to bring the two elements together.

For teams that stack the box, the shot to intermediate passes will help to soften things up.

Did they bring their QB too?

All these Georgia connections is a plus. Georgia Southern really doesn't even have to leave the state to build a team. Being in talent rich Georgia is one of their biggest advantages.

Arkansas talent just doesn't cut it for us. We have to go all over the south.

I don't know, I try to be level headed but I don't like these hires. Gillespie has had the job before and it didn't work out so why are we doing this again???

And Hatcher winning % at VSU was .864.

It was widely known then that Hatcher handcuffed Gillespie.

I guess we'll find out. A collection of coaches from the worst period in program history, whether coincidental or not, does not fill me with confidence. And the last time I saw VHS play, they were running the spread mixed with proset/power...

Bubble Screens is a Hatcher/Air-Raid thing.

Gillespie is spread-option based.

If you now watch Gillespie at VHS and Hatcher at Samford, you will see the two are very different.

Big time. Coach Summer said he wanted people that can recruit this State, and that is exactly what he got.

Pros - There's no way we don't get a boost in recruiting.

Cons - No one really knows what the offense will look like. Will we keep QB's that are really mobile, or will we move to something closer to a pocket-ish passer. This offense could look like Baylors (which would move this into the pros category) or it could look like UCFs this year (ew...)

The GS fan base is not very patient. If all these D2/high school coach hires don t produce teams near the top of the Belt the pitchfork wielding GS fans will run our AD and all these coaches out of Statesboro

I'm all out of pitchforks and I'm getting too old/tired to run people out of town. Hopefully this works out.
