I have been at say Navy's stadium and I don't consider it in the top half of NCAA.
I don't like Maryland's stadium at all (but they have a great basketball arena. Nice! Nice!! Nice!!!). Virginia's is good but not great.
I consider Akron's stadium one of the best small capacity stadiums in the country.
Not a big fan of BG's stadium. CMU's is okay, nice but not special. Some people really like the Glass Bowl, but I have never been fond of it.
ODU's game has an excellent game day atmosphere for a non-G5 school. I really liked the stadium.
Give BG another look. It is a nice facility. The Glass Bowl is the most unique in the MAC and Waldo is the class of the MAC...CMU has a nice game day atmosphere because the town folks have pride in their local team (unlike....) and you are correct, Akron is a great facility. Rynearson and Buffalo are probably the worst.
I'll repeat what I've been saying: We NEED to wait and see what the plans for Rynearson are and the timeline.
I'm not too concerned about TODAY because what we see today will not be what we see in say a couple years...
Once plans are unveiled then we'll be able to comment on what our stadium facilities will look like...
EMU has an opportunity to really improve the look of Rynearson...
despite all of the naysayers, every time EMU has done something big in the last 20 years it has been good. Convo, Halle Library, Student Center, etc. Those are all first rate buildings. Even the president's house.
This is what 10 - 12K looks like. Not bad!! (see attachment below).
EMU needs to replace the lights, replace (!!!!) the scoreboard, replace the press box and replace the football building in the north end zone.
Lights aren't an aesthetics issue, but the press box, scoreboard (!!) and football building are.
EMU needs to redesign the north end zone...
The south end zone looks pretty good to me with the Convo (esp. during dusk with the lights on), and the grassy area.
Guys, this isn't like rebuilding downtown Detroit or Flint. It is mostly a new football building and integrate the scoreboard with it (I believe CMU has a good design). The press box is 'stand alone' project, i.e., it is separate from the north end zone work. They can be done separately or at the same time.
Here is CMU's stadium showing their beautiful 2-tier press box, etc...
