Random Thoughts
Now that the P-bowl massacre is over and I have had time to get myself together...a few thoughts:
Way too many bowl games. There should be 15 games featuring the top 30 teams; under that system this game never happens. NCAA football attendance is down, yet the amount of bowl games is up. A 5-7 Minnesota team is in a bowl game today, that's ridiculous. Time to make a bowl game invite relevant and significant again.
The MAC is what it is...an average mid major conference. This year the two teams that played in the MACC got blown away, each giving up 50 plus points. Accept it...it's hard to attract a big time recruit to a MAC program. NIU needs to get the "best of the rest", then get the most out of the talent it has.
The MAC will continue to be a stepping stone for coaching talent. Those that are great move on, those that are mediocre stay. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to have both; high level continuos success and coaching stability.
Given the circumstances (injuries) this team endured, they got as far as they could. We laid an egg in the bowl game, but to get to the MACC was quite an accomplishment What's concerning is that the team did not appear to be enjoying the process. The season was a grind...I didn't sense a whole lot of fun from this group. This may be a lack of leadership from the coaching staff and the seniors.
The program's incredible level of success in recent years has created a new performance standard that if not met results in significant discontent. This team won 8 games this season; there are some NIU football alumni that didn't win 8 games in their careers. I see this as progress...if an 8-6 season is now viewed as a disaster, we must be pretty damn good.
Happy New Year!

I think we will see much more leadership next year. Hare and ACRB seem to be a leaders as juniors but not being a senior I imagine they would respect when boomer or TLL speaks. We should be better next year but I think it's good people are seeing how ****** the MAC conf is and any chance of getting out we have to take advantage of.

We're still talking about getting out of the MAC after that embarrassment last Wednesday? Where will we go? Sunbelt??
We are in the MAC and that's where we belong. Outside the MAC we couldn't fight our way out of a paper bag.

I have to agree with you HuskiePride12. this group of seniors coming will play to win for each other, sometimes things are going on internally with a team and their coaches that make the kids not want to play or should I say win for the coaches or certain coaches, and unfortunately something like that can sour a team, I thought i read somewhere in a post here that the team walked out of a practice, that generally doesn't happen unless something really bad happened with the team and coaches and if that is the case it carried over to the field. The team that showed up on that field is a better team, divided we fall, I saw division there. I believe when they played Ohio State, especially defense, they came together as a team to prove they could play with the best. I'm ending this on a positive note to go out to the universe, the team next season will be a better team than some on this board think, so don't give up on the boys with all this negative vibe. Bring in the new Year with the winning spirit, and fresh, positive energy, Anyone else in?? I'm in, GO HUSKIES!!!

I don't recall anything posted here regarding a "walk-out" by players. Sounds like you may know something we don't. If so, appreciate your insight, but it might be best for you if you don't share here.

RE: Random Thoughts
Djud has the right perspective on this. These bowl loses are more of an indictment of the MAC than of the Huskies. While that's not to say niu doesn't have some real problems right now, we've just over valued them in recent years due to their MAC dominance.
