Will come down to buyout vs lost ticket sales

5300 season tickets that average only $500 apiece would equal $2.65M. Obviously, the higher the average cost, the fewer lost ticket sales required to make it worthwhile. It's worthwhile this year. It would be a financial bloodbath next year.

Great point and I'd bet the ranch the heavyweights have already done that very same math.

But do we have the heavyweights right now to clean up RC's mess and pay a guy $10M just to leave?

I honestly don't know. But we have been struggling to complete the funding of the IPF for years. If I had that kind of money, seems like I'd much rather fund something permanent like an IPF than give millions to get rid of a terrible coach.

I really think he might be here next year.

Just threw up in my mouth.

My opinion is that he would have been gone last year had it not been for a couple of people. That's done now and the money is there. I also think that the buyout is going to wind up being lower than some think.

I sure hope you are right. I'm not an insider, but have a relative who is one. He says as of now the money isn't there. Who knows?

He says all the money going to football. Cause that is what we've been told could get us to the B12. And we are just going to have to live with hoops until we get closer to 2020 when Pastner's contract ends.

If that's the truth, then they need to go all the way. Josh should have to start housing the team at his place, doing the team's laundry, they need to have parents driving the team to games like it's JR High. Don't wast another cent on this abomination.

Bowen announced that Norvell's entired salary covered by private funding. Which is great. But again makes one wonder if there is big money out there to buy out Pastner's contract.

Bill Laurie was at game tonight. Hopefully he will see what needs to be done and make it happen.

I hear you 1125, and it's good Laurie is back in the family, since that wasn't going to happen while RC was here.

But Laurie just gave $10M for the IPF. It's gonna take someone with big money getting pissed off enough. Maybe Fred? I know Mason Hawkins from Southeastern Capital Mgmt comes to some games - he has that kind of money. But how many of these guys do we have?

Will come down to buyout vs lost ticket sales

It only takes 2,000 lower level/club season tickets with donations per year to cover buyout and hire new coach at $3M. That would happen within weeks of a decent coach being announced.

Pure math that I made administration aware of 2 years ago. Also did it before Cal was hired and RC finally saw we could afford Calipari.

We made 13 out of 43 2-point shots.

The WHOLE GAME.

That's almost impossible.

I didn't watch the game, but would it have anything to do with ball movement, positioning and shot selection?

Couldn't disagree more.

Just look at what Larry Brown did at SMU in just 2 seasons...a program that had basically ZERO basketball success...almost ever. (Ok, so he got caught cheating a kid who didn't even legally earn his HS degree yet was admitted into SMU).

If, as you say, Memphis makes a "great hire", Memphis could be near the top of the AAC in 2 years or less...as it only takes a few recruits to turn around a BAD basketball program (SMU), and even less to turn around a great historical program like Memphis.

Couldn't win a big one over the first few years, now he can't beat a mediocre OM team at home - point don't confuse OM as a big game in the world of college BB. But I guess when the program is at this level beating any FBS team is now considered a "big game".

Buyout- $$ from lost ticket sales= what Pastner gets on his way out the door.

This may make up for some of the $$$ lost this year from ticket non renewals.

He is the coach; he should be putting a product on the court that people want to see....and will pay to see.
Feel bad for the kids.

Bill Laurie was at game tonight. Hopefully he will see what needs to be done and make it happen.

Buyout- $$ from lost ticket sales= what Pastner gets on his way out the door.

This may make up for some of the $$$ lost this year from ticket non renewals.

He is the coach; he should be putting a product on the court that people want to see....and will pay to see.
Feel bad for the kids.

"Feel bad for the kids."
Yes, me too. Generally when a kid signs with a team that's got elite talent they enjoy elite results.

It was the same last year, just not quite as bad. Seeing Austin asking for fans to come out was sad. Seeing the abysmal crowds in the Forum this year is embarrassing. Reading posts on here blaming fans for the situation all the while telling them to shut up about changing it probably beats all that in the smh area.

Life is so much easier if you are just willing to admit when you're wrong. I'll admit it. I thought they should've given Josh a good extension three years ago. It was naive, wishful thinking that ignored some major red flags, and it's time to correct it. OK boosters, your turn.
