Great guy, but UT football needs a reset with a new coach and a slew of quarterbacks waiting their turn. Ely got his full season of playing. Time to move on, with hopefully a QB who can get us a MAC championship.

I agree. We don't need another year of Ely. I know he didn't get a lot of help from his receivers, but you cannot put all the blame on him.

+1. He's a lot more mobile, and all he knows how to do is win.

I'm not exactly oozing with confidence with Woodside but I do agree that Ely needs to move on. He had a solid senior year but the position needs a new look...

I'd take a 10/+ win season with Ely again.

I might have a better impression of Ely if his recievers would have helped him a bit more this year, so it's not 100% his fault. Ely might have had a special year if it wasn't for the drops and dumb plays in the WMU game. As a whole our recieving unit was the one sour note I have coming away from this year. They held our offense back.

You've receivers like Thompson, Jones, Johnson and Johnson, Roberts all back. That's a solid core.

I'd like to see either QB with a new receiver's coach.

RE: Ely's future with Rockets still in Limbo
The passing game this season was a mess period. Ely missed open guys downfield. Receivers and Ely were not always on the same page. Receivers were dropping balls at key times. I would like to see a new QB next season. Woodside always struck me a backup, but maybe a season off made more polished. I know a lot of people liked Russell at wide receiver and that he has great stats, but he was just not a clutch guy. He had all of the physical tools of a 5 star receiver, but the mental toughness of a 2 and star receiver. I think Thompson is a better receiver than Russell.

Besides Woodside, we have a freshman that could be the next guy to lead us to a title.

Whoever gets it, I just hope they can do it. I don't even care if they are a star or not. Brian Jones wasn't a great athlete, but he got the job done.

Would have been nice to have Brian Jones for more than one year.

RE: Ely's future with Rockets still in Limbo
Michael Julian has all the tools, and looked much improved when he was able to get in. The wide receivers need to play better next year no matter who is in there at QB. I really thought Ely threw a real sharp ball, but he did miss some throws. I wonder if more rehab and another summer will allow him to get to 100%, because he didn't seem to be there all year in spite of playing in every game. He wasn't as mobile, and I wonder if the injury wasn't nagging him all year. Regardless, Woodside would do a nice job. Does he have what it takes to win a MACC?
Ely went through the Senior Day ceremony, but that may have been just in case.

He was there two years. Backed up Bolden in 2001 then started in 2002.

I don't have much of an opinion on who has the job next year but seeing what Mitch G can do would be fun.

While technically he was the backup to Bolden in 2001 he only played in 1 game the BCSUCKS game when Bolden was hurt if Bolden had been able to play they would have a red-shirt year for Jones and he would have had 2 years as a starter. Make that +2 on Jones I would like to see Ely back I would rather see Julian play than Woodside if he is not back.
