Doc Holliday to WVU potentially??
With WVU weighing coaching change, what are the chances of him returning to alma mater? Would he have interest?

RE: Doc Holliday to WVU potentially??
Doubt it, but stranger things have happened. If offered, we will find out if he has really meant what he said or if he's full of poo... (You know, "I love Huntington, the fans, the school..etc). It's hard to turn down the big-time for a coach...
Personally, I think he stays here. His parents live roughly within 20 minutes of Huntington. Morganhole is almost three hours to the north and that area sucks a royal wombat's a-hole. Doc is no spring chicken, but then again, neither was Stewart (sp). And I also think that Doc is not finished with his project at Marshall.

A chance to go coach your alma-mater in the Big 12 versus staying in Huntington, WV. He has taken you all as far as he can and will not stick around if given the chance to make the jump.

Bumfug Huntington? Huntington is a freakin metropolis compared to Morgantown.. Or ****** ass Boone, NC for that matter.. The alma-mater and his the conference are the drawing points.. Not the location of Marshall compared to the school in question

Having been to both Morgantown and Huntington, and having no real allegiance to either school, I think Morgantown is slightly nicer IMO. Huntington might be a bigger, but Morgantown a bit nicer.

As a commuter school, exactly how much further do you expect your football program can go? The playoff is out of the question as a G5 school and he took you damn near the NY6 bowl last season if not for an egregious loss to a former belch team. The NY6 is as far as you will get to. Unless you are in the AAC, you don't have a shot at the "playoff". Which i've come to dislike more than the BCS games.
FCS playoffs I can get behind because Colgate was able to defeat JMU and Charleston Southern beat the Citadel. Given the conference comparisons, with the way the FBS is set up, that would never be allowed.

No, I'm not expecting a CFP bid... But I think the AB not out of the realm of possibility, and close doesn't cut it.

At WVU, a coach of Doc's caliber would have a chance at the National Championship though. If he is offered the job I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't take it.

RE: Doc Holliday to WVU potentially??
I think Doc would go to Morgantown in a heartbeat now that Luck is gone and I wouldn't blame him, it's a $3MM a year job in the Big 12.
What would be interesting is to see if he would still think playing Marshall would be a positive for wvu as he says now.

As the only two FBS teams in the state I don't see how it could be bad. It wouldn't do much damage to WVU's reputation in-state to lose to Marshall and Marshall now has the national perception of being a solid program.
(See ECU whipping up on the ACC schools the past 4 years)

RE: Doc Holliday to WVU potentially??
Although they should, given a 4-5 conference record this past year. I'm a Mountaineer fan, second to the Herd, and Holgerson is NO stranger to the Big XII, but he hasn't been able to build a team. Are they competitive in most games? Yep. But you have to win against the competition you have, and you can't feast only on Iowa State and Kansas, and a couple of upsets, to win in that league.
AS to the question, I think this is the only job that Doc would potentially take. The only problem for him that I see is that his recruiting base is Florida, not Texas, and someone the 'eers are going to have to draw talent from the conference geography.

RE: Doc Holliday to WVU potentially??
Unless Doc gets one of the Florida jobs (Florida/Florida State, Not Miami) I don't see him going anywhere. The WHO will not pay his 3 million dollar buyout, and I don't see them paying Holgerson 9.6 million to just go away. So no way would the WHO actually pay almost 13 million dollars just to get Doc, which is what it would cost them. Holgerson's buyout is his remaining contract which sits at 3 years at 3.2 million and then the 3 million that they would have to pay Marshall for the buyout.
Like it or not for the Who, their fans and writers, their admin aren't just going to pay him 10 million dollars just to go away. They are stuck with the QB coach that can't recruit a decent QB.
