Coach guaranteed to win ...
Butch Davis

Why not?

He's won everywhere he's been. He got canned at UNC but there was never any proof of wrongdoing on his part.

He would bring in recruits, and we would keep the train rolling.

How about the fact that he would't take the call? And he was a big part of the UNC Academic scandal....

How do you know he wouldn't take the call.

And he was barely mentioned in the academic scandal.

Cannot half ass this hire. We have the program growing but we do not have a solid foundation of winning built right yet. One bad hire can send the program right back to the Porter days., We are right now repeating history. Just as DeAngleo did not bring in a large number of recruits to help us build a foundation. It does not look as if Lynch was able to bring in the top talent either.

Based on our recruiting classes it very well could be that Fuente saw he was not replenishing the talent levels with his classes and we could have easily taken a dive back to irrelevancy. You see what happened with West after DeAngelo left.

We need to make sure we hire the right man but we also need to be able to send them a message.

On September 19, 2011, in response to an NCAA notice of allegations, Davis was never mentioned in the NCAA inquiry and had no involvement in the investigation.

RE: Coach guaranteed to win ...
Honestly, it would be very similar to the Cal hire ... a coach who had gone to the pros with limited success and with a perceived shady past without any proof of wrongdoing, but a coach who had great success in college in the past and is known for his ability to recruit.

Now, I'm not sure if Butch has a World Wide Wes, but who knows ...
