RE: Odom turns down Memphis...
If he and Sexton are so smart, why didn't they accept Memphis' offer and then contritely back out if Missouri offered. It's not as if he and Sexton are making a lot of friends in Memphis at this point anyway. As it stands now, he might miss out on both jobs.

Sounds like spin. If Odom really was the first to turn the job down, Sexton would have gotten it to the press to make it seem Odom was worth more. If he didn't turn it down, he wouldn't burn the bridge in case that's the job he needs to take.

So, the thing with Odom was that if he came we would be in good hands defensively. Now, whoever comes in is going to have to build most of the staff from scratch. We don't even know if Dickey stays.

It's all semantics at this point. To me, it's pretty clear this was a bad courtship and it's best for everyone that things turned out they way they did. Odom may or may not get the Mizzou position. If he does, good for him. If he doesn't, I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere.

Memphis will be fine.

Sounds like it's time to fire up all the engines at the search firm. It would set the program back to wait too long. No coaches = no recruits.

What seems to be conflicting outcomes are not. They're both right.
Were I Memphis, I would not negotiate with a Sexton guy ever again. Or at least the next decade.

Sexton is good for his clients. If one were in need of his services, he's the right call to make. He played Memphis against Mizzou.

I agree that Jimmy is good at what he does. In this case, however, he may have cost his client a chance at either position.

So if he overplayed his hand, and Odom doesn't get either gig, how does that help his client?

Just sharing. This may not be new news to some but I believe my source.

Tell Jimmy you passed this on ....

Exactly. Just another Sexton negotiation tactic. What's good for both parties in negotiations isn't in Sextons play book, what's good for Sexton is what he's all about. If Odum is out at Memphis and Mizzou doesn't want him, then because of Sextons my way or the highway dealings, could mean that Odum is left holding his d**k with nothing to show for it. Then Odum could say thanks Jimmy, now what do we do.

So he's good for some of his clients but not others? For the ones he fails, does he pay their salary?
