Memphis has a freshman QB, Brady Davis, 6 ft. 4, out of Starkville MS who is reputedly very good. Lynch will be hard to replace, but our QB situation is not at all bleak.

I'd probably bet that's true. I doubt it would be released to the media before they've talked to the team. It's probably why all the rumors about Fuente to VT popped up earlier in the week.

That was not the case with Kelly at UC. Media announced a full day before he had a meeting scheduled with his kids. Just stupid how they handle this stuff.

I recall getting chastised by Memphis fans for saying Fuente would leave. They boasted about how great the Memphis job is and that they had the money to keep him.

ESPN is in the business of breaking news, not protecting people's feelings.

If Fuente was so concerned about letting the message out on his terms, he shouldn't have taken a new job in the middle of the season.

Yes, UCF two years ago was a good example. UCF lucked into an NFL calibre QB and road his arm, but their fans mistook that for great coaching and and having developed a permanently successful program.

That's why UCF won the conference the very next year without Bortles... (and were a UCONN upset away from repeating New Years bowl appearances)

You forget to mention the impact of the NCAA sanctions, and a rash of injuries to said program.
