I agree 1000%. Ya know, I've watched ECU for many, many years, I've had the pleasure of watching Houston live this year and of course Memphis on TV this year. When I watch you 3 teams, plus USF the games are fun. You never know what play is going to come up next. The players are excited, jumping around, patting each other on the back and the fans are focused and just having a blast. The atmosphere that the Houston fans brought this year to our stadium was contagious and I've been pulling for them ever since. Their fans were a class act and so were their players and coaches. I can say the same for Memphis last year and for many years in the past. We had that same excitement in the late 90's.
Getting a quality OC or a head coach from a fcs team that has an unpredictable offense is just flat out fun to watch. As many of you guys know, we are in the middle of one heck of a recruiting hot bed. However, we just don't produce the OL quality of other areas. DL, yeah, we can do that. Point being, we need an offense based around what we can feed into our system. Quick, athletic skilled players and a good QB can win many games, be successful, make money and be FUN!!!!!!! I miss going to the games and having fun.
Look, I'm all for going undefeated. However, if we play our best to say....Memphis, and they play their best, what more can you ask for. If we lose 38 - 35, and we just lose to a team that beat us (and we didn't beat ourselves or try and run an offense that is dated circa 1980, or the players didn't quit on the coach), I can live with that. That's what college football and rivals are all about. With good coaching and talent, wins will come. The key is the administration. I think many boosters that now have their names on buildings and have given many millions are now driving the car. As it should be, they have a vested interest.
I hope you do find someone to make you competitive. But that isn't your biggest problem. I was in NOLA nearly all day today visiting relatives uptown. They live near Audubon Park. Blocks from the Tulane Campus. We were out and about all day taking kids to City Park, eating uptown, and driving around the neighborhoods near Tulane, including Broadway which is home to many Tulane fraternity houses. Nowhere was they any evidence that anyone knew there was even a game tonight. I left at about 5:30 pm to return to my home which is a little more than an hour away. Drove down Magazine and St. Charles on the way to Carrollton Avenue to get to I-10. In other words, I went right around Yulman. NO TRAFFIC anywhere. No one wearing Tulane gear. Until you can get a sizeable fan base in NOLA, you will struggle.
The other thing is that regardless of who is hired, unless the administration allows some leeway in admissions, which I understand that they are still not ready to do, Tulane will be fighting with one hand tied behind their back.
I was driving around Hattiesburg...... Oh wait scratch that... No I wasn't. Why would I ever drive around that arm pit. Now I see why your not in this league. Nice try troll.....
No the reason they are not in this league is because even in the small tiny town of Hattiesburg where they are based there is still more Miss State, Ole Miss, and Alabama flags and merchandise hanging up then Southern Miss. It is the joke of the century that a Southern Miss fan is giving Tulane coaching and football advise. The same Southern Miss that before this season has a history of losing and being mediocre, 2011 being the anomaly. The same Southern Miss that does not even play in a real athletic conference, we would not even need a coach to go undefeated in that joke of a conference. The same Southern Miss that is less then 100 miles from Tulane but millions of miles away in athletic prestige, national respect, and relevancy. We play in the AAC, we are the top so called "G5" school in the southeast. If we wanted advise from a glorified high school football team we would stick to New Orleans, at least they know football.
Greenwave16...you are an idiot!
1) Tulane is the top so called "G5" school in the southeast ? Are you serious, Greenwave16????? Tulane is not relative at all, except for academics (that I will give you) but only that, but so is Harvard and Providence..good on academics but not so on the football field. Congrats, academics got you in the AAC.
2) Before this season, Southern Miss has a history of losing and being Mediocre, 2011 being anomaly ? Are you serious Greenwave16????? When we you born ? Look at USM's history..we have done more that anyone in the nation with less. Not bragging at all, just proud! We have a high winning overall winning percentage and have beaten team in the past that we shouldn't have. That's why they had us nicknamed "Giant killers". Oh, and when you do look at the history of USM football, maybe you will come across the games played against Tulane. Let me know what it says, ok..would you please ??
3) Yes, Hattiesburg is smaller than New Orleans, that's the only statement of truth I have ever heard you mention in any of your post. The State of Mississippi is eat up with Miss State, Ole Miss fans but mostly LSU fans (especially south of Jackson) but there is a huge fan base of USM south of Jackson as well. We own our market in South Mississippi. Does Tulane own their market in New Orleans ??
*There are more LSU fans in New Orleans than Tulane fans, and you know it!!
*There are more USM fans in New Orleans than Tulane fans, and you know it!! New Orleans has a huge Southern Miss fanbase, and you know it!!
Greenwave16, would you actually start talking about things you do know...instead of things that you don't ?? I feel sorry for your fellow Tulane brothers, I'm sure they are embarrassed to have you as a fan of their school.
