RE: Hampton
The team played extremely well at times last night...the lightning quickness of our guys at times is scary.
This is a good Hampton team they beat, the pre-season favorites in the MEAC and an NCAA Tourney team last season.

I like Cohn a lot...he plays every play like the game is on the line and, while he makes mistakes because of his speed and aggressiveness, he is very court aware and puts pressure on opponents' defenses.

Tarpey was all-world last night, with Dixon and Prewitt not far behind. I get exhausted watching Terry!

I also thought Malinowski played very well last night; he has great situation awareness and his ballhandling last night was the best I've seen from him...much improved.

RE: Hampton
Agree with BT2 about Hampton. They are as athletic and physical as anyone we'll play this year in the regular season. They shot a miserable percentage or that game could have been closer. I think Dixon had five blocks. That's an enormous amount for a guard.

My biggest fear is that now we don't have enough depth at center. Seacat looked lost out there against the more physical Hampton big men. Let's hope he gets some good, tough competition under his belt without losing confidence. Looks like we will need him.

Schlotman had a horrible game. He picked up dumb fouls, and looked frustrated. We need Tot to get healthy and in the rotation. I thought Cohn looked fine to me. No chump, just getting the rust off from sitting out a year. I think he will be one of our best options on offense and in transition as the season progresses.

Good win and another one where the opponent was never in the game. That's four out of five games. None of these teams are cupcakes.

RE: Hampton
I agree with the posts by BT2 and Tribe32, that was a good win last night, if a little sloppy at times.

Hampton, obviously, played without Chevious (the UT transfer), who is definitely their best player, due to a wrist injury. He should be back soon, which is good for us. They are going to beat some good teams with him in the lineup and we will benefit, RPI-wise, from that.

Terry Tarpey is rapidly becoming my favorite basketball player (right after Stephan Curry...). 03-wink I don't know where his boundless energy comes from, but I hope he has a deep well of whatever it is.

Omar and Daniel are both going great. I just hope they look over at Mr. Tarpey and follow his "whatever is good for the team" mantra and don't get caught up in who scored last or most (which I, personally, don't think is happening).

I like Cohn, as well, but his biggest asset is also his biggest liability, his speed. It definitely makes us more dangerous when he is pushing the offense and making the opponent make mistakes. However, when he goes TOO fast, it does just the opposite. When you get out of control on a breakaway and have no control over your layup shot, you are still committing a turnover when the opponents players are the next two people down the court. He just needs to figure out when he needs to use "jet" speed and when just "fast" will do.

I was also impressed with the ball handling shown by Malinowski. I did not know he had those skills, shooting, yes, ball handling, who knew. He handled some pressure situations very well. That is a HUGE plus when trying to get your own shot.

Sean had a bit of an off night, but I am so pleased that when he goes to the FT line, we are not just giving the ball back to the opponent. He has really improved his FT shooting.

Towson won last night. That makes the CAA now 26-18 overall. That's the conference's best OOC record in a while. The top 5 teams are 16-5, with some definitely good wins. Let's hope it continues. On to Howard...

I love it. We just beat Hampton by 19 points. And while we are happy with the win, we see room for improvement. This is not the same team that lost to Hampton two years ago, or two years before that. I'm very excited about what this year could bring.

Malinowski's skills should not be overlooked. He has good hands underneath, plays with rhythm, and puts himself in position to be a factor in the game, both on offense and defense. His breakaway dunk was very smooth last night.

I'm glad SoCal Frank deleted that post. Thank you, Frank.

Of course, we all recognize Cohn had not played in a game for over a year leading up to NC State. He'll settle in...his coaches and teammates will help him work through it.

Malinowski has all of the tools but has seemed tentative looking for his shots at the college level. I think as he matures, his confidence will increase and you will see his scoring and impact rise along with it.

Seacat just got abused all night. We need Whitman back, and soon. On the other hand, Seacat shows glimpses of being a formidable presence for us down low... I suppose it is good he is getting the opportunity now, when his youth isn't costing us.

Seacat is a project and by definition will take time to develop. It's important that he play. Not just for this year, but for the future.

Supposed to be the "silver" of the W&M official colors, "green, gold AND silver." It did not work, obviously..
instead of silver looks like the players wiped grimy hands on the pants sides.

Green might be better. At least it would look like it was there on purpose.
