BURRELL!
Why Burrell doesn't Start @ the 3 is BAFFLING, To say the least! They cannot contain he & Dedric @ the same time; Shaw has NO offensive consistency; and neither is Woodson from the 3 against starters....

Burrell @ 3 starting over Woodson @ 2 and Memphis beats OU by double digits!

If you wanna go game by game matchups with that rotation; interchanging the lineup based on advantages/disadvantages fine....
But Burrell is an absolute stud & that matchup would have reversed the whole foul discrepancies between the two teams....SMDH

Burrell is getting smoother. That shot from the baseline was a thing of beauty.

Say you start he and Dedric and they both pick up early fouls. Who do you bring in to back them up? KJ may back up one of them but if both go to the bench who is going to pick up the slack.

I would either start out in matchup zone....or have second unit play zone, as the wings would long and rangy

He let his guy get a clean look and the guy hit the dagger 3 to win the game for OK. Why would a SR be playing soft on that possession. Ballgame.

Burrell played more minutes than Woodson who started. Starting is so overrated.

Shaq is the achilles heel on defense and offense. Matador sharmin soft defense and a black hole waiting for teams to collapse and trap on offense. If he had a little bit defense about him, he would make this team much better.

I focused on him a lot in yesterday's game. He is in 'no mans' land very often. Between 2 players but not defending either. I guess its just his instincts.

RE: BURRELL!
Box score shows Shaq with 5 blocks last night. I was thinking maybe 3.
He did show a couple of aggressive moves on offense, at least.

What I DID notice was how few easy back-door plays we gave up last night. I remember an alley-oop and a layup.
Those drove me NUTS last season.

I'd like this as the starting lineup:

Shaq
Dedric
Burrell
Markel
Tarrant

Shaq frustrated me last night, but he does provide some leadership.

RE: BURRELL!
Shaq had 4 fouls. So, he was aggressive on defense. He also had 0- ZERO- turnovers.
I thought he was okay on defense. It's all aspects of shooting where he is weak.
And those 12-15 footers he's taking more of (seems)- they gotta stop until he can hit them at will in practice.

I haven't seen a player fire up the crowd like that in the Forum since...well, I don't know who. Too bad he also fired up the ref, and then had to sit his smiling butt down for a spell.

To your other point, Markel at the 3 had some moves last night which reminded me of CDR.

The ref did not 'get back at him'. He committed 2 fouls a Senior should not commit.

RE: BURRELL!
I like Burrell coming off the bench to give us scoring punch. I like having KJ and Burrell coming in with their aggressive approach.

I don't disagree, but the refs clearly don't cotton to being shown up.

The *slight* hand check in the lane was a weak call. I get that the refs are educating the players, coaches and fans on the new rule. But I think it's lame to make that call, especially so late in a tight game.

Shaq's swipe down to try a steal, however-holy crap, what are you thinking, man? I mean, I called that when I was reffing Upward Basketball games!

Limiting your best players minutes just in case there is foul trouble later is not a good plan. You have to try to maximize the number of minutes your best players are on the floor.

And as far as the Woodson comment, while I agree that Burrell/Crawford are better players, he at least opens the floor. Unless someone else starts knocking down shots Woodson has to play.

Shaq was in foul trouble so I would expect his defense to be soft for most of the game.
If we had a suitable backup for him I would still expect him to continue to play, since we really do not he needs to be careful.

macgar, that is a good point. A suitable backup at the 5 does play a role in Shaq aggressions or lack thereof, but he has been the same since his sophomore year with regards to defense. inexplicably it started during the Oklahoma state game in Orlando. This year, more than others though, he may be justified in playing softer defense. we just have to do something to offset it. some type of zone perhaps?
